What's new

Gamethread

it has been steadily rising because of injuries.
last few games it has been steadily falling AGAIN!

in favor of richard jefferson who in no way is part of utah's future.

that alone is stoopid beyond believe.

please get of corbins nuts

kinda this.
thank god hayward and marvin got injured so burks minutes could go up.

23 last night lol

Alll because our roster was so stacked at the wings in those years? Foye, raja, hayward, marvin, carroll, cj, howard. No room for a talented young lottery pick with studs like that occupying the wings right?
Just crazy to me.

I forgot to add jefferson to the list

This past summer dennis lindsey set up the team in such a way to force corbin to play the youth and corbin still went with jefferson, a guy most of us thought wouldn't see the court when the roster is healthy, instead of burks.

Imagine if marvin, rush, hayward, and jefferson were all healthy and 100% to start the year. What would have happened to burks in that scenario? I shudder at the thought

Okey I'm just watching the game. How did Derrick missed that lay-up on our first possession? Beautiful pass from Gordon btw

James Harden MPG his 3rd year: 31.4

Alec Burks MPG his 3rd year: 27.4 (and has been steadily rising, will probably end up around 30 when the year is over)

Lol, Finally, Harden got fed up with it and bolted from a championship contender so he could start and play near 40 minutes a game.

He got hurt on that play, but I didn't see a whole lot that looked off. Maybe the Jazz are playing him less to play it safe/better change to lose?

Also, Corbin put Burks on MCW after he came back in the game. That shows that Corbin has a lot of trust in Burks to put him on arguably the best player on the opposing team.

I only watched about two minutes of the game last night and it was when RJ looked real good scoring off Hayward dishes. Is that why Burks only played 22 minutes or was he doing something to get benched? Post-Favors injury matchup issues maybe?

Thanks.

Some of the reason was foul trouble in the first half for burks. That was a legit reason for burks not playing much in the first half.

In the 4th quarter i believe burks was removed because of a bad turnover...... cy thinks he needed rest. So it was one of those two reasons most likely

I hate that reasoning, and most coaches follow it, but for some reason i just cant wrap my head around it.

typically, by pulling a guy with 2 fouls, you are instantly reducing his minutes -- in an effort to try to keep him from getting reduced minutes by getting 3 fouls. seems counter intuitive to me.

just let him play, if he gets 3 fouls, then pull him, if not, then you just got to keep your good player on the court for longer. either way, you get your player on the court for longer, and in times when his presence matters more. (earlier in the game, scores tend to be closer).

burks ended up with 4 fouls in the game. still 2 to give. let him play.

Agree 100% and have always felt this way. All coaches do this and i never understand why

So many times i see a guy get 2 fouls and the coach pulls them out and reduces thier minutes. Then the game ends and they only have 3 fouls.
I thought the whole point of taking them out is cause the coach is worried about them fouling out and not being available to help the team, but if you take them out due to fear of fouls then they are not available already and its like they already fouled out.

Nope rev, you are way off here.

Almost every great player in the nba started off thier careers by playing behind crappy vets (raja bell types) and racking up dnp's while never getting consistent minutes and constantly changing roles/postions.

Kobe, wade, lillard, love, durant, harden, rose, westbrook, aldridge, wes matthews, cp3....... all these guys got a bunch of dnp's in thier first few years playing behind washed up crappy vets.
Corbin is just following the blueprint layed out for him

1. draft a talented young player in the lottery.
2. Play a horrible old player in front of him
3. Constantly change his minutes around and give out lots of dnp's
4. never give him an actual role or postition within the team
5. when he plays great in summer league and preseason and works hard on his game and busts his but at p3 and other off season camps....... repeat steps 1-4.

6. Play him at a position he has never played before, pg. In that way, he looks worse than he is, justifying your not using him much.

I hate when coaches do that so much.

I remember when we were playing the Warriors last, Bogut go two quick fouls and I got excited because I thought he would leave the game. Jackson kept him in and he never picked up the 3rd foul until I think the 3rd quarter. Wish more coaches would take that risk.

Definately.

I think that coaches in general, in nfl and nba, are scared to try things differently than everyone else so they just do what other coaches would do.
Especially the nfl since every play is so crucial.

Off topic but i think that more nfl coaches should do onsides kicks when not expected, go for it on 4th down more often, do flea flickers and other trick plays more..... i would be fired so quick if i were a coach in the nfl lol
