What's new

14th Tank Platoon

Lol.

Free agency will now save the Jazz? I think the pro-DL homers are way out in left field.

First of all, have you seen the free agency class?
Secondly, we need a franchise player. We don't need more vets who come here out of desperation trying to revive their careers.
Thirdly, our own history leaves me less than enthused about free agency. The last time we made a splash in free agency was with Memo and Boozer. However, that team still sucked until we drafted our franchise player.

We need a franchise player. Let's stop kidding ourselves into thinking that 12 role players will do anything in this league. The pistons model is an exception to the rule. And even then, they had sheed (who was nearly a franchise player) and Rip (who was better than anyone on this roster) and one of the best coaches in league history. Oh, and they played the dysfunctional Kobe defending himself against rape charges Lakers without Malone.

Our best players are at best 3rd options on championship teams.

Manning is what triggered the decision to tank. The colts then waived key players and obviously tanked for Luck. Pretty sure it's common knowledge they tanked for Luck.
But are you suggesting the players that were left didn't then try to win games?

I understand what everyone is saying. Lindsey did his best by bringing in Biedrins, Rush, Lucas, etc. Unfortunately RJ still has some game left. Short of injuries, there was no way our core players were going to be worse than teams like Milwaukee, Orlando and Boston. LA should have been better, but they've been devastated by injuries. SO what's the answer? Does Corbin give DNP's to Favors, Hayward, Burks and Burke?

Does he tell his players to commit obvious TO's in the 4th quarter like GS did? Or miss so badly with shot after shot everyone knows it's intentional, especially as the starters and coaches on the bench are laughing and dancing around while leads dwindle and disappear? The minute that happens in Utah is the minute I stop being a Jazz fan after a lifetime cheering for the team.

Listen, it's not rocket science. Have you been following the lakers at all this year?

Pau Gasol regularly tweets out and jokes around about his made up injuries.

The team that can most benefit from free agency and needs the draft the least even sees what we apparently do not:

Obtaining a young franchise player is more important than winning a few games this year and screwing yourself over for years to come.

One step backward in order to take several steps forward. Again, this isn't rocket science. OKC, Chicago, SA, etc have all done this with tremendous success.

Burke, Hayward, and Favors should all have sore backs and ankles right now. When they're recovered then a new hatch of players could be injured for a time. Marvin and/or RJ should have been traded a long time ago. Kanter and Gobert/Favors should be playing more, not Marvin. Jeremy should be getting some burn at the 3 and 4. And Corbin should have been fired at the start of the year. The new coach would be brought in with the understanding that this would be a tank year and to feel comfortable about his jobs security.

Instead, Corbin is fighting for his coaching life. To hell with our long term development or success. Marvin and RJ are trying out for new teams. And we still don't know if kanter and favors can play together. Oh, and we are winning games.

I like most fans, are tired of the mediocrity. We talk about developing a losing culture yet that's all we are doing by being in this continuous "Atlanta Hawk" state. Not bad enough to improve significantly via the draft and not good enough to actually do anything in the playoffs. It's this kind of stagnation that really makes me not even care about this franchise anymore.

Judging by the vast amounts of empty green seats at the arena, I'm not alone. You're in the minority here bud.

Agree completely with the bolded part.

If I were a media guy interviewing DL, it would go something like this:

"You've talked repeatedly about winning a championship. Do you believe a team can win a championship in today's NBA without a top 10 player?"

(assuming he says no)

"Do you feel that we have a top 10 player currently on the roster? If not, what are some specifics about your plans to add one?"

They weren't. Curtis Painter and Dan Orzlosfsky (or however you spell his name) were really that horrid.

Yeah, thats kind of my point.

They knew they were going to be without Peyton Manning and intentionally went with a roster that included no NFL calibre QB's. That's tanking from an organizational level, and I think that is totally acceptable.

BTW, the Colts started the season 0-13 that year, then when they were already assured the #1 pick they won 2 games in a row.

Everyone knew what they were doing and it was the right thing for them to do.

If DL does not put is in a position to lose out nearly the rest of the season, the Jazz will be stuck in lottery hell for a long time. Next years draft looks pretty damn weak, which means that will be the year we get the number one pick. The jazz can't last too many years with half full arenas. They have at most 5 years to put us back in the playoffs until the millers are forced to sell the team.

The Jazz aren't anywhere near the bottom of ticket sales. There are at least 10 other teams who would sell before the Millers.

Not that weak. Okafor, Towns, Johnson is a better top 3 than anything from 2008-2013.

So maybe Lindsey should have traded Favors, Hayward and Kanter for D-League players before the season so the Jazz could properly tank.

A better comparison is that we should have fired Corbin and traded the 2 vets at the start of the season. I don't know why we have Hayward on this roster if he declined our offer. We all know some stupid team will offer him more than our original offer. If we aren't going to match why not attempt to move him right now so we can get something out of him?

Burks is already a better SG than Hayward. If we can tank good enough we can replace Hayward's "loss" with Wiggins or Jabari.

Why are Marvin and RJ still starting?

It seems like to me as if DL and Ty Corbin have 2 completely different agendas.

I'd like to know about Corporate sponsorship. Where do the jazz rank? TV viewing numbers are probably pretty good but what kind of revenue does that generate?
