The Stand is the best King book it's a proven real true fact. The Supreme Court made their decision, and it was unanimous (well, Clarence Thomas voted for Dreamcatcher, because he's a lunatic).

1.The Stand

2.Lisey's Story (CONTROVERSIAL CHOICE I KNOW DON'T SHOOT THE MESSENGER)

3. The Long Walk--early king book, most overlooked, but it's excellent. You'll read it in one setting.

4. Full Dark No Stars--this was seriously one of the best short story collections (it's really a collection of like 4 novellas and a short story) I've ever read. I consider it to be a masterpiece of horror fiction. If you're a king fan and haven't checked this out, you're missing some of his best work.

5. The Dead Zone

6. 11/22/63

7. Carrie

8. Bag of Bones

Some good ones in there.
Bag of bones was great.... full dark no stars was great..... dead zone and 11/22/63 were great..... long walk was ok.

The stand is terrific but i dont think its in the top 5 king books.

I have not read liseys story but stephen kings says it is his personal favorite of all his books

I will have to read more King books to say for sure, but The Stand was pretty damn good.

It's my mom's favorite King book too. (My mom reads more than anyone I know. My mom can beat up your mom in a book reading contest).

According to google king has written 53 books.
I have read 41 of them.

A good one i forgot about is Firestarter.

I prefer most of the early King to the newer King personally. Too often it feels like he has run out of ideas, but is still a wicked awesome writer, so he can rehash characters and plots and still make a best-seller that is fun to read but utterly forgettable. Whereas most of his early stuff was so cutting edge that it stands the test of time very well.

Is "It" any good? The movie scared the living F out of me when I was a kid. I remember playing basketball after I watched the movie (around 2nd grade) and the ball fell into the rain sewer across the street. I had to crawl into to get the ball and I made my mom come out and watch me do it so she would know if It killed me.

That list didnt have hearts in atlantis, full dark no stars, skeleton crew, four past midnight, night shift or different seasons.

Plus some other ones.

I bet i have read closer to 50 king books if you include the peter straub ones and richard bauchman ones.

Try 11/22/63. Especially if the jfk assassination is something that intrests you.
King does a good job of retelling that time in our country and give an inside look at how it went down

Only read nightmares and dreasmscapes from King. Liked it alright but didn't make want to buy another but I may give it a try around these days now that my book suplies are running low.

And Dante rocks. Inferno is one of the best books I have ever read.

If you try king again then get something that is universally liked.
Something like the dead zone, or bag of bones

The talisman and black house are one that most everyone like.

I dont know about other people but needful things seems like a solid book to read as well

Nighmares and dreamscapes was the wrong place to start

As soon as I picked this bad boy up I srs could not put it down.

Highly recommend.

You could actually do worse than to simply read King sequentially. You can see him grow as an author and expand his abilities and imagination as he goes, and the books from the beginning are very good.

For Fish.

Since you like horror books and stupid comedies, I think you might love this book.

I have heard this is a good movie and was trying to think of the name of it just the other day.

Thanks!
I didnt even know it was a book

Some really good books with a healthy amount of comedy in them are The Jack Daniels series btw.

The movie is alright, really disjointed. The plot is pretty ****ing crazy and almost impossible to capture in a movie, but translates really well in book form. If you like it, there is a sequel. A lot darker and more serious, but equally as good.

Probably the funniest book I've ever read though. Made me laugh out loud a lot.

I quite like Patterson too, but I fear the need for a defensive presence in the middle takes precedence.

Definately on my list now
