Agree. No criticism from me for not making a deal. After I saw the Hawes trade I pretty much knew nothing would happen. If Hawes can only land that, that means Marvin/Jefferson/Rush probably are only getting offers back that include long-term contracts, which I know DL doesn;t want.
If we don't trade Hayward, and then don't match whatever he's offered in FA...holy ****.
Yes. The only thing that can't be done is to trade him to the same team that he signs an offer sheet with (if he goes that route). Can't we trade him in the offseason though? (ala the Harden trade)

Maybe Dennis Lindsey shouldn't have fleeced the T-Wolves on that draft-night deal last June.

Yeah, we can do a sign and trade.

Harden was traded after his third season, while he was still under contract with the Thunder. The two situations are not comparable. Can't we trade him in the offseason though? (ala the Harden trade)

Wow.. why would OKC have done that? Couldn't they have kept him for 1 more year and just do a sign & trade in the offseason?
Seems to me they've jumped the gun.
The point in trading Harden was to save money. If they did a S&T they would have to take back salary nearly equal to what Harden would have cost. Trading him on rookie deal allowed him to be traded for rookies and draft picks.
Use your brain KKK.
But they would have had 1 more chance at winning the Championship though right? They were RIGHT THERE knocking on Heats' door at the time, IIRC.
Plus they could have still gotten rookies & draft picks too, with expiring contracts to make the deal work.
