What's new

Ukraine

And as I was typing, I guess I was wrong. I still am not sure Russia invades any Ukranian territory other than Crimea. Still pretty bad but nobody can and will do ****. Just as he crushed Georgia...

The Russian parliament just unanimously approved the use of their military in Ukraine. They approved it for Ukraine and not Crimea.

2,000+ Russian soldiers were flown into Crimea and Russian APCs and attack helicopters are in Crimea.

The Crimean governor asked for Russia's assistance in stabilizing the region against the New gov.

Fights between pro and anti Russian groups are breaking out.

Russia recalled their ambassador to America over the Presidents comment on what's happening.

Putin has been engineering this from the start. The last thing he'll tolerate is a Ukrainian drift away from Russia, but mainly for two reasons. First, he's all about rebuilding Russia's place in some mythical geopolitical order; he wants Russia to have its hinterland back. Second, he won't watch any successful democratization happen on his own doorstep because he fears it spreading to his own country. That's why he's been doing everything he can to discredit the movement down there, and that's while he'll squash it if he's allowed.

If this doesn't make you stop what you're doing and make you **** your britches, then you're wrong.

The Ukraine is not weak!

You are weak!

Ukraine will break the United States!

Good for about 10 mins before doubling over to catch his breath.

My money is on this guy (well, unless the US sends over Stallone).

The problem with not getting involved Thriller is that Russia will become even more bold. They paralyze the UN as a veto member of the Security Council. China doesn't care and EU is not strong enough. So that leaves America.

Russia wants its old power and glory back. Look at what they did to Georgia. Now Ukraine. Who is next? At what point is enough, enough?

Problem with withdrawing from the world is that the two other most powerful nations (Russia and China) are not America friendly. If we do and say nothing the eastern Euro nations (Ukraine, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Coatia, Estonia...) will fall one by one to Russian power and influence. The Asian countries ( Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, Japan...) will fall to China. You are already seeing clear steps taken in that direction.

Then China and Russia are each American equals. I do not think they are our enemies yet but I certainly don't think they are friendly.

The EU and UN are both holding additional meetings on Ukraine.

Ukrainian military is on high alert.

Hundreds of pro Russian gunmen and Russian soldiers have blocked of a Ukrainian military base in Kiev.

Pro Russian protests in several Eastern Ukrainian cities.

Austria and Switerland have frozen assets with multiple Ukrainians linked to the old deposed president.

Lithuania has invoked article 4 of NATO (consultations)

Yay! Murica's coming to save the day! The great supporter of UN and opponent of unilateral action.

Unless Russia become so bold it actually invades US territory, I don't see how any of this is any business of the US.

Spare your tiresome 'Murica bit. It's shallow but I'm not surprised.

The main problem would be how would a Ukraine under Russian control affect Europe. Right or wrong America and Europe will forever see many of their views as the same.

Also could the argument be made to revise the Security Council after this latest example of it's inability to control a situation. Should the vetoes be removed and a majority votes position be drafted?

Again, how's that a problem for the USA? What business is it of the USA what kind of government Russia, Ukraine, Egypt, or Germany have? No one is threatening to invade the US here.
