What's new

Ukraine

We are seeing a slow American military build up in east Europe and the Black Sea.

6 F15s to Lithuania (4 F15s already there)
12 F16s to Poland
The guided missle cruiser USS Truxtun is heading for the Black Sea

Crimea voted to hold a March 16th public vote on wether to join Russia. RT (Russina state owned news agency) is already labeling Crimea as part of Russia.

F15s and F16s are 3rd gen jet fighters. Russia just completed it,s 5th gen. That's like showing off your PS2 to your buddy that just bought a PS4.

The Truxton was commissioned in 1962 and is based in Italy. It was already scheduled for exercises in the black sea well before this whole Crimea mess blew up. We are not involved in a military build up in east Europe. We will not engage Russia militarily along their border. The idea of such a confrontation and the consequences are horrifying for the entire world. No one in the US government is that stupid.

Also don't be like Franklin and take my updates of what is happening as editorial on this. Just repeorting the facts.

I'm sorry. when you said "We are seeing slow military buildup in east Europe and the Black sea." I should have known that you meant already scheduled naval operations and token aircraft deployments of little consequence. My bad

Nice way to ignore the listing of what that entailed. Yes, your bad.

As already stated in this thread there wont be war over this. I also find the choice of equipment they are sending to be funny more than alarming. I am sure Putin got a nice smile.

Oh come on. I did not ignore the listing of what that entailed I just didn't repeat myself. It was completely appropriate for me to point out that

is not as impressive as it sounds.

Here are some of his goons.(note the swastika like emblem they wear around their arms)

That emblem is not a swastika.

However, I would not be surprised at deep anti-Semitism on either/both sides of the Ukrainian political landscape.

It doesn't even sound impressive. If you saw the list and deemed it, as I did, unimpressive why would you talk about my post sounding like legit forces where going over there. Which is it?

yep I know, that's why it says "swastika like" without all the rhetoric it could probably be shrugged off. Couple it with the words and actions of this group and you have to ask yourself what type of people are we recognizing as a legitimate government. They have no constitutional or indeed electoral legitimacy. They forced themselves in to power with protests that were far from peaceful. I'm not saying that Russia is all hearts and lollipops but let's not delude ourselves into thinking that the new Ukrainian government is some great liberal hope.

This is similar to what ahppened with Syria. The rebels were at first painted as patriots. Then word of their acts started to get out and it was discovered that they were as bad as what they were fighting against.

Speaking of Syria, did you guys see this?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVuXslrCD4s

It's just a bizzaro world. You never know who is fighting in these things. Although, who even knows if that video is from Syria. Looks like Fresno to me.

I have to admit that I don't know much about the internal dynamics of the Ukranian protests, however judging from similiar protests in other contries, the opposition is hardly a homogeneous group. The far-righters are piggybacking the protests and participate for the common goal. When the dust settles, then cracks appear and those unions splinter. Same with Syria - "the rebels" started really as mishmash of islamists and secularists, though I am not sure how much of the secularists are left there...

sadly ironic in a way that this is happening so soon after the Sochi Olympics - - sort of reminiscent of what happened after the Sarajevo winter Olympics in 1984...

I think that's all good there now though, so maybe in 30 years this will have a happier ending

smh.

The problem with not getting involved Thriller is that Russia will become even more bold. They paralyze the UN as a veto member of the Security Council. China doesn't care and EU is not strong enough. So that leaves America.

Russia wants its old power and glory back. Look at what they did to Georgia. Now Ukraine. Who is next? At what point is enough, enough?

Problem with withdrawing from the world is that the two other most powerful nations (Russia and China) are not America friendly. If we do and say nothing the eastern Euro nations (Ukraine, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Coatia, Estonia...) will fall one by one to Russian power and influence. The Asian countries ( Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, Japan...) will fall to China. You are already seeing clear steps taken in that direction.

Then China and Russia are each American equals. I do not think they are our enemies yet but I certainly don't think they are friendly.

I have good laugh at you American Russophobes. You think Russia is so strong? How is Russia strong after Cold War? Can you tell me this? Maybe you say well you have nukes and this is biggest joke of all. Nukes are so old. So so old. Putin is scared if he fires them that they will Chernobyl up his pretty face!

There is no need for this racism at Russia. Let them be in having their property back upon Crimea vote. This will be okay.

Lol compared to Estonia and Ukraine Russia is so strong. Compared to America not so much. I'm not a Russiaphobe so you can save the laughter. Also how in the hell is russiaphobia a racism in the first place? The are a vastly white country. Let alone a country not a race.

I just find this international chess game interesting
