Following potential 2014 draftees

probably been talked about a million times already, but what happens if jazz draft embiid? Kanter or favors gone?

not sure if this belongs here or in a separate thread

Kanter gone. Embiid already can do what Kanter does PLUS he plays defense. That would really be a versatile defense with 2 potent pick and roll defender and rim protector. Stretch lineups would be fairly inefficient against the Jazz.

Yeah, saying Exum is faster than Rose is a really bold statement, and not one I feel confident you truly know 100% what you are talking about. It might be true, but probably isn't.

Right now, anyone talking about Exum, is just talking out their *** IMO.

Well he isn't faster if you look at max acceleration or max speed. But Kevin Durant is also faster than D-Rose to the basket because he has legs like a stork and only needs 1 dribble. I think it's more of this sense. Long legs, insanely long first step.

That's not entirely true, Cy. Mainly true, though.

Exum is NOT faster than Rose, imo. Nor is he 'as' fast.

This is a WILD comp (and everyone knows I hate comps anyway..) but Exum reminds me of Parker. I know it's WAY dumb, that's okay. He's just soooo crafty with the ball and lots of offensive tools. Yes he's totally a different athlete/player... I just like the offensive tool box and the craftiness around the rim.

You mean Tony Parker right?

I mean, yeah there is film, but what is the Australian League that he plays in? How do we compare those leagues and then compare his speed to Rose?

This sentence disqualifies EVERY talk by you about Exum.
What's known are tapes from international play where talented American and Spanish players who are currently at college or learning at the end of benches and in development teams on lease in European leagues to become professionals got totally trashed by Exum.
He played a kids high school tournament that's not competitive. But he doesn't play a league in Australia. His school is an institution that gives gifted athletes a special opportunity to become better at sports with professional assistance while doing school. It's a boarding school.

Just google D A N T E FKING E X U M for gods sake before you open your mouth about him...

Different question now: I am looking at the NCAA backets and I wondered:
Why do 2 teams battle for an 11th seed in the first round to add extra fatigue to them when both teams belong in the tourney instead of dropping out a 16th seed or making two 16th seeds play for that one? I don't get them from a competitive standpoint.

Mostly he has just played in U19 events right?

Sorry, there just isn't that much information out about him compared to other players. Saying something as sensational as "He is as fast/faster than Derrick Rose" is dumb.

Kevin Durant isn't faster than Rose to the basket btw.

Yes Kevin Durant is quicker, because he doesn't have to take 3 dribbles which slow him down.

Rose burst of acceleration is one of the best ever. 1 or 2 more dribbles isn't going to make him slower than Durant. Short distance burst favors smaller players. Srsly LOL if you think Durant is in any way quicker than prime-Rose.

This could be an overreaction from last nights game, but I'm starting to like the idea of drafting Vonleh. I think he has more defensive potential, is quicker, and better at guarding stretch 4's then Kanter, and can go outside like Kanter can. I just think he's a better overall fit with The jazz and playing next to Favors.

You're simply too narrow minded to see different kinds of quick. Rose takes 3 crossovers is in a low stance that are just fast enough to blow past his defender. Kevin Durant catches it at the top, takes 1 dribble, plants his first foot at the height of the free throw line, his next 5 feet closer and goes airborne. Derrick Rose isn't 7 feet tall and at the same time could win a gymnastic olympic competition against 12 year old chinese kids and can do straight line drives against whoever he likes. He takes longer roads to the basket and while he has more velocity the time span he needs to get to the basket is longer because of that.
Just think about different players and different play styles. Dante Exum has simply a very unique body for a backcourt playmaker. And the similarity is that they attack the basket hard and have a very efficient first step. They just do it in a different way.

Durant can get to the rim so well because players have to guard his 3pt shot incredibly close. That is why he can blow by his defenders. Rose burns people 1 on 1 despite his defender sagging off a little bit to compensate.

It's not a contest. Derrick Rose is the faster/quicker player. 2 extra dribbles isn't going to change that.

Durant has an excellent burst of speed and an incredibly long stride.

Besides, "speed" is a relative term. Who is faster RELATIVE to the players guarding him?

Rose.

@Cy..
you've got my attention with Payton. I like everything I can find on him (for a late-first round pick). With a little strength, he should be able to defend any guard, and his athleticism should help him establish an offensive repertoire. If he develops a good set-shot 3, then he'll be a steal that late.

Sweet, excited to see what he can do against Creighton. If he can get out in transition he could torch them.

He is the most "Rondo" of any player in the draft, but w/ better size.

Cuz awa sux and don't belong in the tourney. Neither does Tenn. And the winner is still rewarded by getting to play the most terrible of six seeds.

Why add more rounds to NCAA Tourney?

$$$

We shouldn't even have 16 seeds because they have never actually beaten the 1 seed. It is really unnecessary and should just be a rest for the top seeded team.

$$$ and tradition though.
