Following potential 2014 draftees

i must say, i've been underwhelmed by these players are are supposed to save our franchise, or any other franchise who happens to draft them. I'm beginning to conclude that this draft class has been badly overhyped. I mean, wiggins can't even get off more than 6 shots in the biggest game of the year so far. Really? He's going to make a winner out of a team like milwaukee? Parker can't carry his team past the first round of the ncaas. Embiid is already fragile. Randle looks good, but not one to turn around a franchise. And who the hell really knows about exum?

Am i the only one who thinks these guys may (not for certain) just be a tad bit overhyped?

#underrated

I watched some of the AZ game. Granted it was already a blowout, but Gordon's game consisted of just trying to set screens for everyone else. I'm probably leaning towards Vonleh in the 6-8 range. I think he'd round out the 4/5 rotation nicely. Under that scenario, I wouldn't advocate re-signing Marvin.

There are some decent wings who will be available with the GS and even our 2nd-round pick.

Even though I'd kill for top 3, I'm still excited that worst case scenario is getting someone like Smart, Gordon, or Randle.

The only way we get screwed is if an unexpected amount of guys return to school.

Smart's shooting form scares me to death. He's got a nasty hitch in his shot and that's a tough thing to fix. I had a bad hitch in Junior High and it took me a ton of hours to fix it. This is what Draftexpress scouting report said about him.

On the downside, Smart still sports a very inconsistent jump-shot, something that didn't really improve from his freshman to sophomore seasons. His shooting mechanics leave a lot to be desired, as he dips the ball violently, and fades forward and sometimes sideways on his release. That wouldn't be that big of an issue if Smart didn't take as many jumpers as he does—nearly half of his field goal attempts came from beyond the arc, and he hit just 30% of them, many being contested ones early in the shot clock.

I think if Vonleh and Favors are on the floor together, you'll have to look closely to tell which one is which--Favors has bulked up a bit, that's the main difference physically. It's not a bad thing though.

I started a post last night spelling out how I think this draft will underwhelm in relation to hype but my iPad decided it didn't agree and just didn't post it.

What follows is a Readers Digest version of my OG post:

-Wiggins: Wouldn't surprise me or anyone else to see him end up the best player in this draft. It'll take awhile though, IMO. I'd bet against him being ROY next year and feel like its safe money. He has all the tools but, IMO, today he lacks the "im the best player on the court/no one can stop me" mentality. He needs time to mature and I personally don't think his immediate impact will be what others think.

-Jabari: Early Grant Hill, IMO. If he goes to halfway decent situation I see him being ROY. BUT, he is obviously a tweener on the defensive end. The best 3's are hard to impossible for anyone to guard anyway but Parker isn't an athletic freak and he isn't going to blow anyone away as a post defender against 4's either. His BBall IQ is a major asset.

-Embiid: has all the physical tools and shows flashes but he's been playing the game for, what, 3 years? The "future Hakeem" talk is silly at this point, IMO. Now add potential injury issues. Do you guys see him as a franshise changer? Beast big, yes......potentially.

-Exum: who the **** knows? You dont.....ya ****ing liar. I've said it before but if you are saying he's going to be great and he turns out as such, you aren't a great talent evaluator, you just flipped a coin. He is the biggest boom or bust guy in the draft.

-Randle: Like Parker I think he is one of the most NBA ready today. He's aggressive and has a man's body (loses train of thought.....). Can he develop a consistent jumper and develop a better bball IQ though? Has impressed in the tourney though.

-Then there's guys like Gordon, Smart and Vonleh that wouldn't surprise me if any of the 3 ended up top 2-3 in the class.

The more I look, the less I'm sure about any real order.............basically.

why are there spacing issues with paragraphs all of a sudden? Makes it hard to read. MODS?!?!?!

I'm not sure why this gets so little air time here on jazzfanz. A combo of Trey-Hay-Jabari will never be a top-10 defense.

Was this draft class so hyped that now it's underrated? People are down on every one of these guys.

I don't get the Randle hate in particular. If he measures close to Kanter's height then he's going to be a handful when he gets some footwork down. He has the athleticism that lacking is Enes' main Achilles heel. If he's there at seven then that's a damn nice take at the spot in any draft.

kanter was 6ft 9 3/4 barefoot. 6ft 11 1/4 with shoes. Kanter has good 2 inches on Randle.

So after Wiggins who is the best pure elite athlete in this draft?
Is it Gordon? Or someone else?
If so then that's who the Jazz should pick if he's still available.
Jazz really do need an elite athlete.

Are you sure he wasn't wearing platforms?

enes just doesn't look like 6ft 11 guy on the court, but he really is tall. he is 1 inch taller than 6ft 8 3/4 barefoot Favors

Kanter really has a perfect size. if he enters in this draft he would still be a top 10 pick IMO. and he would come to utah. and we would cry and whine about it for next 4 years.

lavine, glenn robinson III

I think there's zero chance Anderson is there for the GS pick. He's a love-hate prospect in my eyes. Some teams might question his fit/position, but I think some team in the late lotto will fall in love with him and scoop him up.

Yeah that might be true. I wonder though who it is. I can see Atlanta, Boston or Denver interested in him. Or maybe Minnesota simply they love drafting UCLA guys.

Sorry but Jabari is simply a very skilled and polished scorer. His BBIQ is not there yet. You hope it will come with time because Jabari doesn't appear to have an ego on crymelo's level that he tunes out every advice he's receiving. But his passing game and team defense are so bad that I'd only say he has upside to understand the game and become useful there.

With Exum....you know maybe different people have different thoughts in their minds when seeing Exum play. We'll see if we're right about him but I find it very odd that you say everyone doesn't have a clue about him just because he played at a different stage.

Basically. The top 7 is as good as it gets, really.

As far as Randle goes, he's more athletic than Kanter, but it's still a concern. And he'll measure close to 6'8 and a quarter inch according to fabtrey.

if randle comes in at 6ft 8 1/2 or taller then i don't mind taking him at #5. i hope he puts up good measurements and overall numbers because i like this kid alot at #5. but if i have to guess, vonleh will put up a better numbers and he will confuse da hell out of gms. maybe some gm may even reach to get vonleh over randle which i think would be a big mistake.

no homo, love randle's nba ready man body.

i guess i can see him at 6ft 8 1/2. big and thick dudes tend to look shorter on the court. i would be ecstatic if he is full 6ft 9. i mean if that happens, i won't even think twice. grab him.
