Dennis Lindsey "scouting" in Europe

I was in Holland a few months ago, and while I knew the majority of people spoke English to be polite I asked some cashier if he did. He gave me an astonished look and told me "of course, everyone here does." I found it to be true, though admittedly I was just in the touristy areas of Amsterdam for a couple days. Still, if you want to go to a foreign country where pretty much everyone speaks English that isn't Britain/Ireland, I'd definitely recommend Holland.

True story: on my first business trip to Amsterdam, I flew alone, intending to meet up with colleagues who had flown before or would arrive later. I was worried about not being able to get around or make myself understood. First store I go into I timidly ask one of the clerks, "do you speak English?" With a slight air of scorn, he replies back, with a distinctly British accent, "of course I do." I told that story to a co-worker who was from The Netherlands. She explained to me that almost everyone speaks English there, especially in Amsterdam. And wherever I've traveled since (mostly western Europe), I've had no problem communicating.

And no, my business there had nothing to do with marijuana or the red light district.

I swear I didn't read this before I posted.

And amazingly enough a weed shop wasn't my first stop in Amsterdam...it was like my 3rd.

Wouldn't the hiring of Messina remove the need for extreme scouting in Europe? I'm sure that him and his contacts would be much more valuable in that area than anybody that we are going to send. I would suspect that whoever is European scouting guy is would be replaced when Messina is hired, no?

Should we hire somebody to tail them? Italy has a lot guys out of work that would be game.
Chad Ford is heading to Europe so hopefully he will bump into him. Croatia will probably be a hot spot. Saric and Nurkic both playing in the Croatian league now. Also they can hit the coast to party with some of the cast of Game of Thrones.

What?

European people don't know what translates to the NBA. You still send scouts and they have contacts who they talk to. You aren't going to pull scouting just because you have a guy who is European on you coaching staff.

This is insane. Someone posts a video of htis guy yesterday and 24 hours later everyone is convinced DL has basically already hired him. Did I miss something? Is there actually any reliable source that has said we're even interviewing him?

I haven't been to that part of Europe (north) but in the southern/eastern part of Europe I found that what you're saying to be true as well. A year ago, I visited Italy, Croatia, Greece, Turkey, France and Spain and had no problems communicating with the locals in all of those countries...EXCEPT for France. The area of France that I visited (Marseille) seemed like nobody could (or had any desire to) speak English. Fortunately for me I was able to use google translator on my smartphone.

Cool! Which areas/cities have you visited?

Izmir and the area where Ephasus is located. It would've been cool if I had a Okur or Kanter jersey to wear on that trip. :)
Nice, İzmir is one of the better cities in Turkey, we have a poster here from there(addictionary) as well.

How were the girls? I'm asking because they are what İzmir is famous for ;) I haven't been there yet, except brief passing through, so can't confirm myself.

Funny you asked that...when we had lunch in Izmir, my wife noticed how stunningly beautiful our waitress was (as did I but I couldn't say it out loud)...so on our way out my wife told me to pose for a picture with her. I showed that picture to my friends when we got back home and told them how I hooked up with a hot Turkish babe. LOL.

Turkey is a beautiful country...I loved it there.

Half way down reading your story I thought it would have ended a bit differently...

oh we... a man can dream.

DL has known for months that Corbin wasn't coming back, so yes, I think they are connected.

This.

I bet DL knew even before the start of the season that Corbin will be gone by the end of it. He dangled that "improve the defense" carrot just so he has an excuse to let Ty go. Anyone thinking DL made the decision last week is definitely drinking the kool aid.

"You have given out too much Reputation in the last 24 hours, try again later."

That's great. As long as you don't hook up -or take picture with- with one of our relatives or friends. Because, then believe me, you'll get in troubles.

JK, hope you'll visit again, one time visit wouldn't be enough for let alone Turkey, only Izmir itself.

Problem is: I look turkish, so I wouldn't have any of that "oooh he must be a tourist" mojo going for me.
