The Best Albums of 2010

I didn't read it but i hope Nas & Damian Marley collabo album 'Distant Relatives' was on there. Album of the year IMO.

I saw them at the Mile High Music Festival in Denver

That particular show lived up to its name.

I didn't care much for either list. I usually never do agree with these things.

My top albums of 2010 (in no particular order) are:

My Chemical Romance - "Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys"
Katie Melua - "The House"
Kate Nash - "My Best Friend Is You"
The Narrative - "The Narrative"
Stars - "The Five Ghosts"
Lydia - "Assailants" (Not exactly a full-length album, but deserves a mention.)
Linkin Park - "A Thousand Suns"

Give it up. That album came out 12 years ago, and wasn't anything special.

Meh, not my problem if you can't appreciate good rock. And I picked that one because, well, it rocks (eh? - that was for ainthopper =), and it is their most commerical.

Their newest has some solid tracks as well as lots of the older stuff. One of each:

I had no idea Stars had an album out this year. Another one I'll have to add to the list....

Thanks for turning me on to the black keys (YB and others). I am liking it so far. Very reminiscent of Zeppelin and White Stripes. Downloading Brothers, looking forward to it.

The album in bold deserves some special recognition. I have really been enjoying it the past few days. I really don't know anyone else who even knows who Katie Melua is. It's a shame really, as she has such a beautiful voice. Here are the videos for two of the singles from this great album.

Somebody kill it.

Listening to Kick and YB talk about the "best" music of the year is like...well...I don't know what it's like, but it's ****ing painful.

I don't listen to much rap/hip-hop. Practically none, to be honest with you. And I don't know if I'm crazy -- but MBDF is pretty spectacular. I listen to this thing, I hear Sgt. Pepper's. I hear the Beatles. I've never heard rap sound this creative.

Maybe Vinyl can tell me.... Is there actually other rap that sounds like this? This creative and musical?

Most of it is creative and musical. As a rule, avoid southern hip hop and you should be fine.

Maybe we mean different things when we use those terms. I've not gone out of my way to listen to much, but the stuff I typically hear on the radio and see on television.... I wouldn't generally call creative and musical in the same way that I would call The Beatles creative and musical. You know? It's a matter of degrees. I'm sure it's all creative and musical, but not comparatively...

Any specific recommendations?

I'd have to put Crystal Castles on the list for 2010. For me, their song 'Year of Silence' was my favorite song of the year. Just an awesome, gloomy thing.

Cheers for this. I agree.

Best album of the year: Bonobo - Black Sands

Rounding of this list:

Blockhead - The Music Scene (released Nov 2009, **** you hipsters)
Gorillaz - Plastic Beach (taste it, Kicky)
Caribou - Swim
Foals - Total Life Forever
Major Lazer & La Roux - Lazerproof
Sleigh Bells - Treats

Started looking around for concerts because of this thread and came up with a doozy.

Line-up:

Smashing Pumpkins
Black Keys
My Chemical Romance
Phoenix
Broken Bells

Guess I'm not watching the game tonight.
