What's new

Marcus Smart with the 5th pick

Smart < Gordon.

Neither can shoot but Gordon at least has elite talent.

Not that I don't like Smart, because I do but we already have a pg that can't shoot.

Let's get a Kirilenko with attitude.

I don't think he will help the chemistry. And it is a big thing in the team of Utah.

I would want him on my team if I was building another one to play alongside me. I like badass mother ****ers. They make the game of streetball more exciting. But this is NBA. You gotta go by the benefit of the team as a whole.

And I would never give him the starter role as a PG over a point guard like Trey.

At best, he could be a SG near him and balance the strength of the back-court.

exum can't shoot too.

i'd go with Marcus Smart or Julius Randle...

although i would highly prefer that the jazz smart.

I do not understand why smart and Burke can not play gather. Smart has got size to defend and strength to attack to the rim as a SG. I l guess his game look like Tyreke type and if new coach provides him to contain in team play and draw his lines, it's modern basketball. Two guards who can control the tempo, play PnR etc. Also anyone has doubt Smart's defense against SGs? My choice for 5 is smart

The solution for Hayward is skipping him to SF which he's fine due to his size, athletism and quickness against the most SFs in the league. The problem can be spacing but the roster can make it balanced due to defensive power, uptempo and some improving shooting of Burke, Kanter and Hayward. I also believe when Hayward's scoring chip on his shoulder gets away from him, his percantage will be so much better.

Absolutely. That is why I think the people who want him gone might be sorry when they see him shoot really well on another team.

Many posters have referenced Smart's drive and "anything to win" mentality which is cool. but if this was really the case why wouldn't he slim down a bit? carrying that extra weight slows him down and limits his explosiveness. If he was truly the competitor you think he is why hasn't he improved his physique? he is being compared to Harden, Wade and Evans - but none of them are heavy. I don't see the next Wade I see the next Tractor Traylor.

Why do people keep forgetting about Burks? Where does he fit in this mix? Seems like it would cut his minutes. Unless he gets a lot of minutes at SF. Would he stay at 6th man with Smart getting the start? I'm of the thinking that Burks is better than Hayward, or at least has the potential to be. But everyone seems not to be thinking of him if we draft Smart, which is why I don't see us drafting Smart unless we trade Burke.

You just exaggerated it. Yep, he can slim down and it must not be a problem for Smart if physical coaches wanna him to do. If 6'11 Kanter has made it to increase his exploviness, Smart can make it same too.The most matter thing for him is shooting. It's gonna open lanes for him to pass and drive to the rim. I am really optimistic for this kid.

yes, I exaggerated a bit in order to illustrate my point. However it does not lessen the fact that heavier players don't fare well in today's NBA. knowing this I am surprised that Smart would not have taken the last couple of months to slim down. I am not optimistic for this kid because currently he is not a good shooter and athletic defenders will stop his drives.

Because the extra weight doesn't affect him negatively. Being heavy is only a problem if affects your movement and explosion. Smart tested as one of the quickest players in the draft, hit 33 on standing vertical (which is elite) and an excellent 36 on the one step. In short, because he is still one of the most athletic players in the draft, the fact that he is 227, is only an advantage. It would have been a mistake to lose weight.

For most normal people, yes they would have been best served to lose weight. But Smart is a physical freak. Good question, though.

Why do not u look at the other side of it? He's 1st among the guards on boarding, second on stealing. He's got quick hands, knows how to defend, aggressive. On offense, he can post any guards up, not just score but can make assists from low block and drive to the rim like Tyreke, Wade etc. It's all balance and body structure. It seems he's so efficient with his pounds.

thanks for the thoughtful response, I would counter with he's a big fat, fat fatty.

I think the Jazz will be hesitant with Smart a) because he doesn't shoot well, b) because he doesn't have polished PG skills, and c) because he is undersized for the SG despite his wingspan and ability to defend.

I think it's going to come down to who among the purported top 4 slips to them when Philly or Orlando takes a PF.

I think the Jazz would be hesitant to take Smart because he's crazy. Huge mistake, but I'm fairly confident DL doesn't care much what I think. :(

Smarts physique >>>>>>>> hardens physique

Great answer

For what? Is it really efficient to be that big as a small guard?

I was simply looking at thier physique and nothing more.

Smart looks like he might work out (as in pump iron). Harden not so much.
