Following potential 2014 draftees

I always liked Khem Birch, i know of him for awhile, as a recruit and then I can remember seeing him at Pitt, my initial assessment was definitely 'this guy looks like an NBA player' I can remember being amazed with how well he could run.

IMO he belongs somewhere in the 40's or 50's. I can see why he declared this year, without offensive improvement next year he would have been turning 23 going into that draft, there was plenty of room for error.

I think Khem can stick, he plays defense and rebounds, serviceable FT shooter, that's a classic formula to hang around.

Best-case for him is maybe... Amir Johnson.. i think thats spot on and could happen, hes going to need to play 4 for a long career though.

I gotta say though if im looking for Defense and Rebounding in the 50's, i prefer stashing Moussa Diagne, whos got legit C size. for a team like the Knicks, Khem could be a perfect match and really outperform though, hes got a decent shot at making it as a 2nd round pick imo, I wish he showed more improvement on offense in all these years, but i guess thats why you get him in the 2nd round

I wish there was more talk of what to do with 23 and/or 35.. does anyone have a sleeper? (wheres the poster who was talking up Jordan Clarkson pre-season?)

at 23 id be thrilled to see;

LaVine, Hood, Warren, Ennis, Payne on the board

thats not realistic though, so im hoping for;

Porzingis, Tavares, P.J. Hairston, Bogdanovic or Elfrid Payton

the players im not going to complain about if selected are

Cleanthony Early, K.J. McDaniels, Clint Capela, Kyle Anderson and Jerami Grant

the players im going to complain about if selected 23rd are

Jordan Adams, Glenn Robinson III

Good lists for the most part.

What if New Orleans offers #9, #45 and next years 1st unprotected for #5?

how about #7 and next years first from the Lakers?

would the Celtics consider #6 and #17 for #5 and #35, if Exum fell?

how about #8, Ray McCallum and next years 1st top-5 protected for #5?

honestly though for me it comes down to who we draft at 5.

the 4 players I see the jazz being able to get

Parker (trade up) then I am looking for a defender
smart and I am looking for a floor spreader
vonleh and I am looking for a wing scorer
Gordon and I am looking for a shooter

No to all of those. The Jazz need top-level talent. All of those teams have a player that can be argued have top-level talent.

The Jazz need to stop acquiring assets and use those assets to get that top level talent.

Some good suggestions.
If the Jazz aren't really, really focused on one player at #5, then I think dropping back as far as #7 would be ok. Assuming the first four picks, in some order, are Embiid, Wiggins, Parker and Exum, Jazz would still be assured of getting Vonleh, Smart or Gordon. But I wouldn't consummate the deal until the picks were made. There's always a chance of a surprise. Then the Jazz would look silly trading out of the spot if Parker, for example, fell past Orlando.

Can Vonleh make trey quick enough to get by his man and drive the lane? Serious question.

What player were you watching? He's no Wall or Westbrook, but he certainly didn't struggle getting by defenders. Most of the plays were PNR, but when he got the chance to beat some of the better defending PG's 1 on 1 he did so pretty consistently.

No he did not.

Even if he scoots by one he is not fast enough to get by the rim protection or help defenders.

Well you are the one who asked if Vonleh would make Burke quicker. Clearly with floor spacing bigs the rim protectors and help defenders have to say put on shooters.

Again nobody is saying Burke is top 25 in quicks, but he certainly on many possessions against multiple quality defenders prove he has the quickness and ball handling to beat defenders. Quickness is just one aspect of getting by defenders. Some guys just have great handles like Irving, some or crafty like Andre Miller and some are both like Steve Nash. Burke's has enough of quicks, handle, and craftiness to get where he needs to consistently. And all those attributes are likely to get better as he trends towards his prime.

The ball needs to be in his hands much more often in the half court with the objective for him attacking not just dribbling at the top of the 3pt line waiting to pass the ball to Hayward.

I do not have the link, but Hoopshype has Orlando bringing in Smart for a second look. If it is not a smoke screen that could be big for us.
