hear that trade include J.Jack, nice backup PG we need that position.

But risk is sky high who knows who Wiggins or Jabari will be???

A backup getting paid $6M+. Overpaid. Yes, he can provide minutes, but that contract is bad. No matter how they pitch him as a player, Lindsey should be saying "salary dump, salary dump."

I'm smelling another tank year. The Jazz have totally poisoned the well for Favors here now. They have to pull the trigger.

How do you figure? Favors is more than used to trade rumors with his name. Plus his agent knows that trade rumors are a very frequent and normal part of the business. Favors won't be bothered at all.

Possible that the Jazz tank again.

This is the kind of deal you do for an ESTABLISHED star.
What did NY give up for Carmelo? Essentially Gallinari, Chandler and an unprotected 1st. They also shipped out Felton and Mozgov, but got back Billups and some throw-ins
Carmelo was an ESTABLISHED all-star. Gallinari and Chandler are nice players (around 13 and 15 pts/per), but I'd say Burks and Favors are more than equal. Favors has even more value as a center on a terrific contract. So yes, giving up those players PLUS a guaranteed #5 is paying more than what Denver gave up for Carmelo.

What did NJ give up for Deron? Again, a proven all-star. Arguably one of the top-3 PG's in the league at the time. Favors (who was an underachieving #3 pick) and two uncertain first rounders plus a mid-level player in Harris. Utah really has no one comparable to Harris. Maybe a guy like Marvin Williams (but he's not signed). So Utah gives up two starter-quality players in Burks and Favors PLUS an all-star potential #5 pick PLUS future assets?

This deal, as currently proposed, is wildly in the favor of Cleveland. If they need to deal and use Utah to also dump 1-2 bad contracts (Jack, Varejao or Bennett), Utah should give up LESS!

both of those guys were leveraging their way out of town, and both teams would just rather take what they got than nothing. the negotiation process was undoubtedly not in their favor, teams knew they were desperate.

Number one picks are never cheap. That's just the reality. Shoot even last year The worst draft ever, Cleveland would not move the pick though they reportedly had a lot of offers. Favors is a hefty price and Cleveland would be really stupid not to take a deal for favors burks and number 5. Anything more is just greedy.

Deron trade was a complete surprise. He had another year + to go. There was no need to pull the trigger when they did. Agree with you on Carmelo.
AS for Cleveland, they're the ones under the gun. They honestly believe they have a chance at getting Lebron to return if they can assemble a roster. They tried and failed with Hawes as their 5. Stern/Silver has given them the chance 3x to get another star. While Favors isn't a "star," he's a damn good player to have in the middle, especially if you don't need him to score. Add to that the #5 pick. Cleveland HAS to get this deal done. And trading with Utah might be the only way for them to dump Jack in advance of when free agency talks begin. They can present their MAX offer to LBJ with a great group to put around him, plus a couple of solid players off the bench. LBJ never had the depth in Miami.

Irving
Waiters
LBJ
Varejao/Favors
Favors/Thompson
(or start Favors & Thompson with Varejao off the bench)

+Exum, Smart or Gordon off the bench. That's a helluva team.

June 24, 2014 UpdatesEmbiid, according to a source, is not under strong consideration here (Utah). Sports Illustrated

That plus earlier indications that Utah does not want the #5 pick. I think Thursday is going to be a wild ride. Possibly a very short one, but wild.

I'd miss this. He also had some nice passes not shown here..

Yep, I'd miss Burks as well.
I say the Cavs meet the Jazz halfway on this.

The accepted price: Favors, the #5 and a top-3 protected pick next season, no protection in 2016. I think the Jazz finish somewhere in the 8-12 range next year. Burks has that kind of value.
Have to remember we are giving the Cavs cap relief by taking on Jacks' $6M salary for the next three years.

Jack is a nice pick up to mentor Trey and is probably still better than a few starting point guards in the league so I really would not be bothered by his contract.

I just wonder how much less we would have to give up to the Bucks to get the #2 spot instead of the Cavs for #1. Jabari or Wiggins would still be there and the cost difference could be significant. Maybe the Bucks @#2 would accept #5, #23, Burks, and next year's top 3 protected pick to just drop 3 spots. Maybe.

Deron trade was a complete surprise. He had another year + to go.

He had the remainder of that season, then a season after that that everyone was pretty sure was going to be locked out, then an opt-out and the Jazz were up against the trade deadline. They were looking at Deron possibly walking for nothing, flat-out, if they didn't make a move right then.

I also think this is way too much to give up for Jabari or Wiggins. That said, the one advantage they'd have over Carmelo when NYK traded for him is that if they become legitimate stars they'd still be on their rookie deals and hence vastly underpaid relative to their production.

I'd happily do Favors + 5 for Sanders + 2. There is at least some statistical evidence that Sanders, despite his possible insanity, does have a large measurable impact on team defense. I'm not sure the same can be said of Favors at this point.

This is worse than the proposed trade with Cleveland....

Wiggins and Jack for Favors, Burks, #5, and #23? That's a ton to give up......
Always good to get a fresh prospective.
