Hayward has agreed to an offer with Hornets

I'm trying to understand what the significance of 4th year player option is vs straight 4 year deal and how than can be bad. Anyone enlighten me please.

It's bad for whoever signs him. If he's worth more, he leaves after 3 years as an unrestricted free agent. If he's not living up to it, he'll opt in and make our lives miserable with that trade kicker.

I wouldn't say Hayward terribly underperformed. He shot poorly from deep and went through the motions on a team going through the motions.

He showed his skillset, which is why teams like him so much. Teams are enamored if he can bring that skillset, and bring back his sharpshooting, for a total package.
If he had come out and proved he was a #1 option to the tune of 22 6 and 6 with good percentages, like some were predicting, do you know what he would've been offered? This exact contract. Just doesn't seem right. He was disappointing this year, few deny that. And no one was talking about a max deal last offseason.

If there is a 15 percent trade kicker in the Gordon Hayward deal, that would help not hurt the Jazz. He can't make more than max contract.

Looks like we got this part wrong? Maybe he is getting slightly under the max, unless he gets traded.

Hayward got married to a fine-*** girl, and is now going to make 60+ million over the next 4 years. What a lucky *******.

We need players with the contract mentality of Stockton, Malone and Duncan. Winning and improving was obviously more important to those guys than getting paid every penny they possibly could. Though those sorts of men are obviously hard to find, they do exist. Hopefully we will soon have proof that Favors is in that category. It simply will not work for the Utah Jazz to play this game by the rules that Hayward has set up. Good by Gordon.

I would have done it the other way around, but not a bad haul by any means

By the other way around, I mean I would have paid 60+ million to marry an ugly man

Yeah, obviously not at all...smh

They will match, and it is what they have to do...it doesnt matter at all IF he is worth that money or not..do you people not get how this works yet??
Again..they WILL match or S&T..

Why do they have to match him?

Aside from the sheer cost of the contract, my biggest concern is Hayward will not be able to handle the pressure of living up to a max deal. I hope Quin's system takes some of the pressure off of him, but he has shown to be a bit of a shrinking violet. I really hope I'm wrong.

Hayward contract is 4 years long (with the 4 year being a player option).

No one is going to give Burks a big contract. 1 dimensional, 1 side of teh floor player.

I agree with this. As much as I liked what I saw from Burks last year, he's not the type of player that is going to command a big contract unless he improves his game quite a bit. He'll certainly find his place on a roster with his energy and slashing ability, but honestly he's either point guard who can't really play point or a shooting guard that can't really shoot. That's a hard sell regardless of his intangibles.

I've been saying this for it feels like 20 years. But if you let him walk--what else are you going to do with the money. Shut up with that false-macho "he doesn't deserve it/he's ungrateful/players these days" horse ****. Seriously, that's the most obnoxious **** Utah fans do. Malone shook Larry upside down until car dealerships fell out--and you better believe the owners see these players as commodities. If it was beneficial to us, we'd trade Hayward. This contract is beneficial to Hayward. He was absolutely right to go looking for it and to sign it.

If you're offended by it, you are a nutcase and should be in a straitjacket.

The only question we should be debating in this thread is: is Hayward the best we can get for the money at this point in time? If not, what else are we going to spend the money on? Are we worried about paying Kanter so we let Hayward walk (the answer to this better be a resounding no). Does it make sense to let this player we've developed walk away for nothing--out of pride that we don't want to pay market price for him?

Is there a better way to spend the money at this point in time? Personally, I don't think there's a better option, at this point in our rebuild. I am not interested in maxing Greg Monroe. I'd much rather max Hayward. I think he's still the best value in our potential market. I think in two years his contract could become trade able.

Ballsy move by the Hornets, I ain't mad. But they're not getting Gordon unless there's some interesting trade to be made here that I don't know about. Resign him. Aged jocks on the forum take a deep breath. Count to goosfraba. It's unfortunate, but matching is likely the best move.

I wouldn't boo Hayward if the Jazz match and he plays, but if he plays like crap next season he absolutely deserves the lion's share of criticism, if the Utah media had the ********* to give it to him. When you make $15 million a year, you better be either the first or second best player on the team and not shoot like absolute crap.

No one is going to offer Burks more than 8 million a year.

Didnt you hear hayward just got maxed.

Before last season no one thought hayward would get maxed and no one understands why he is right now
