Jazz Officially Matched Hayward According to Woj

Ppl over reacting like whoa.

The "stick it to other teams!" angle is so so sooooo overplayed and somewhat of a fantasy created in fans heads.

BY FAR the best strategy for an NBA team (and any bizness really) is to focus on what your organization is doing, and do it well. It's laughable to think that screwing other teams over is a foundation to successfully build your franchise around. Just do you, period.

Once you decide that you are matching no matter what, there is some value in coming out and saying, "This is our guy. We didn't need to take this to the final hour because it is a no brainer for us." Even if that's not how you exactly feel, it sends a message to the fans, the players, and everyone in the organization that we don't feel like we are over paying for Gordie.

Charlotte offered Gordon that contract hoping the Jazz wouldnt match, so pls stop with saying that we could have somehow screwed them by not matching. I really really can't believe that is something I have to type out tbh.

This. 1,000 freaking times, this!

Not a huge fan of the move, but it's here now so we need to deal with it.

Ok Hayward what are you going to do to earn that MAX? You better prove your worth.

I can see the argument that some people are bummed out that we matched, even if I disagree. However, seeing fans bitch and moan about Utah announcing the match 13 hours prior to the deadline and saying that this makes Utah look weak is pretty dumb.

Probably did it because Hayward is in town for 7/11-12 with his basketball camp. He can sign his deal just by dropping by the Jazz office before he leaves. It's a good PR move by Dennis to show no hard feelings. I didn't want the Jazz to match, but the market IS crazy. I'm just discounting last year completely; I think Hayward is a 45%/40% player. Still think he should have agreed to less like Favors did, but the contract isn't likely to cause financial distress. I think he opts out after three years, at which point Utah has additional picks in 2017, or maybe Hood is ready to be a starter.

Here's to hoping he becomes the best glue-guy of all time because that's what he'll have to do to be worth anything close to this asinine deal.

So the Jazz have their drafted player back at max.

Now you realize why Corbin didn't play Enes, Burks etc.?

Yeah he was the Einstein of contract management.

I didn't want to match, but this is not a devastating deal bro. Nowhere near the Okur #bacl for example.

Memo's deal was more contextually bad. But $20 million over two years for a starting center, in a vacuum, isn't terrible. Unfortunately, Gail didn't know that she was about to break the team's back with that extension because he's such a nice young man.

Can't wait to see this board in mid jan when Hayward is scoring in the teens, being outplayed by Burks, and is in another shooting "slump."

What will his fan club come up with this time? I remember in past years it's been Corbin's fault, deron's fault, his fiancé, etc. will it be Snyder's fault this year? Exum's? The Bear's fault that Hayward is an avg wing and role player?

The memo extension looked super smart until he got injured.

Hopefully Hayward becomes a middle class mans pippen. That would be worth it to me.

Nervous obout this contract, but glad to have Hayward the next 4 years. Want to see less shooting more slashing and playmaking. And commit more to defense.
