Jazz Officially Matched Hayward According to Woj

Don't know if the Jazz could of got them but would much rather have.
Trevor Ariza + Lance Stephenson for almost the same price as Hayward and Murphy
Trevor Ariza + Lance Stephenson>Gordon Hayward

No minutes for Hood in this scenario though. He will be 22 before the season starts, so not a guy you want to let rot on the bench.

I agree with that to some extent. I feel that to keep Dante Exum here and to have him sign an extension will depend on these things, otherwise I think he will bolt to the Lakers. Jazz have to start making the Playoffs within two years and Exum has to become the starting point guard. If Hayward signing turns out bad, and he doesn't lead us to the playoffs within two years then I think we are screwed on trying to retain Exum. That Hayward signing could possibly set us back for four years. I think having Ariza and Stephenson for example would set us closer to the playoffs then Hayward and Murphy. But hey, as long as we are playoff bound in two years and Exum is our starting PG its all good.

1) Exum has said he wants to play for the Lakers
2) Lakers was interested in Exum
3) Exum is very marketable and he will get a lot more endorsements making a lot more money
4) Lakers attract free agents and don't mind going over the luxury tax.

Of course this is all based on if he becomes a star player.

Wow. The conclusions you come up with.....smh

Regardless of what some of you believe, most experts in the league prefer Hayward much more than Stephenson. As much as I was against paying Hayward that type of money I'd rather him than a nut job. There is a difference between tough and gritty and bat *** ****ing crazy. This woman beater is the latter. **** no to him.

1) I can show you a link where Exum said he would like to play for the Lakers
2) I can show you a link where the Lakers said they are interested in Exum
3) I can show you where Exum mentions he wants to play PG in the NBA
4) I can show you a link where Gordon Hayward is getting overpaid on a 4 yr contract.
5) I can show you a link where Exum is very marketable
6) I can show you a link where players make more money in endorsements playing in big markets
7) I can show you a link where Hayward's stats has gone down every year he has been in the league

Your right I did draw conclusion that if Exum becomes a stud and he is not happy here, he will most likely bolt for another team. How if Hayward does not perform well it could hinder Utahs chances of making the playoffs. Question, How may superstars wants to play for a losing team? I didn't see any interest in James or Melo wanting to play for teams such as the Bucks, 76ers, or Jazz. Yeah, maybe drawing conclusions but it should be something the Jazz might want to look at. Too may times bad teams develop talent just to have them leave because they could not put a winning team together. Too many links, if you want any let me know and I will post them.

You sound like you want to trade Exum for Randle.

I've seen them. Come out of abovetopsecret.com once in a while and back to reality. You latch on to **** and take it to a disturbing level.

People assuming players won't come here as a free agent without any proof is disturbing
People posting bull**** that's not true is disturbing
People exaggerating numbers to try and prove their point is disturbing
People defending mistakes the Jazz have made is disturbing

By the way, do you have the link where most gm's would prefer Hayward at 16M compared to Stephenson at 9m? Or is that something your blowing out your a$$

I can also show you a link that explains the Jazz have Exum's rights for 4 years and can match ANY contract he receives after that. I can show you a link to a press conference where Exum speaks very highly of Utah and is excited that his new coach was a PG.

How many top-10 picks went to a winning team? One. Charlotte owned Detroit's #9 pick. That's the nature of ANY draft in ANY sport. The very best players go to the worst teams, unless a blockbuster trade has been made. There is absolutely no reason to believe Utah can't keep Exum, just as OKC still has Durant and Duncan will retire as a Spur. Utah had ONE bad season after winning 43 the year before. It was expected and by design. Lindsey purposely left the Jazz without a bench. He knew Utah would get a top-10 pick.

Now Utah is on an upward curve. There is zero chance, barring devastating injuries, that the Jazz will not be SUBSTANTIALLY better than last year. The guard trio is better, by virtue of adding Exum, by Burke not being a rookie and by Burks coming on at the end of last season. The SF combo of Hayward and Hood is solid. Sure, Hood will struggle some as a rookie. And I guess you could assume a worst case with Hayward doing an AK now that he has his money. Yeah, if that happens Utah is screwed for one season. Then the Jazz have a max bench player who comes off the books in 4 years, Somehow, I seriously doubt that happens. Hayward has an opt out clause after 3 years. That coincides with his 7th year in the league when the vet salary structure changes. Gordon will be on a mission to become a $20M+ player. So on to the bigs. Gobert is fast improving. Favors should be better; he's certainly shown an eagerness to start practicing with the team. Kanter can't be any worse. Novak is a better shooter than Marvin was a stretch-4.

Are there really folks on this forum that are advocating the idea that Stephenson would have been better on the Jazz than Hayward? Even at a lower contract?

I mean with all the talk about players who are cancers on their team, I think it's pretty obvious Lance was NOT a calming influence and was nothing like Lance B. Johnson.

Another superb nugget by the seemingly always-incorrect NUMERIC
Here's to hoping he becomes the best glue-guy of all time because that's what he'll have to do to be worth anything close to this asinine deal.

Well another blunder by DL. Jazz are such *******. Stick it to CHA and let it be known that if you try to sign our guys that's one thing, but if you make it as toxic as possible we will **** you every chance we get.

Terrible move by the Jazz. Lets just tell all the teams we will match anything so teams will offer max money. Why? Because we would rather pay max money for someone that had the worst season in his career. Jordan sticking it the Jazz still 16 years later. The bad thing is the Jazz is bending over for them and saying "I dare ya"
Well I dont like this move, but was expecting it. The Youngins will pick up the slack for this contract, I wish we got 2 or 3 players for that much $$ though, other teams are finding bargains.

Strangely, look who made the most sense of the situation. Miss u, bro :'(

Ppl over reacting like whoa.

The "stick it to other teams!" angle is so so sooooo overplayed and somewhat of a fantasy created in fans heads.

BY FAR the best strategy for an NBA team (and any bizness really) is to focus on what your organization is doing, and do it well. It's laughable to think that screwing other teams over is a foundation to successfully build your franchise around. Just do you, period.

Once you decide that you are matching no matter what, there is some value in coming out and saying, "This is our guy. We didn't need to take this to the final hour because it is a no brainer for us." Even if that's not how you exactly feel, it sends a message to the fans, the players, and everyone in the organization that we don't feel like we are over paying for Gordie.

Charlotte offered Gordon that contract hoping the Jazz wouldnt match, so pls stop with saying that we could have somehow screwed them by not matching. I really really can't believe that is something I have to type out tbh.

There's much, much more. Enjoy.

How did I miss this one? I wanted to make a fool of myself too. Dammit.

:(

Wrong.. you know how this works.

It's actually, every 5th game that he plays well the "I told you we should MATCH!" crowd surfaces from their past 4 game slumber.

(I am not pissed we have Hayward.. just pissed we've now got so very little flexibility to make moves... and this team will not ever be really good.)

Somehow Dala missed all of Peeks posts...shocker.

;)
