On a basketball note: The Curry saga is basically only so magical because he was kind of a late bloomer. Imagine Curry had a development curve like D'Angelo shows right now. If he's on a max contract a lot of personnel decisions could/would have run different. Not that GSW couldn't afford him or the tax in the first place.

The guy is electric and would prolly fit in pretty good in Utah. But if your goal is to nurture 2 max contract ball handling guards, then you gotta be willing to exceed the tax from an owner standpoint. If you're not better go settle for most bang for the buck point guards and focus the majority of your cap on high impact wings/bigs, where you have a way bigger drop off in talent.

Utah has paid Luxury tax in the past and openly admitted it as a mistake. So the question is will they do it again if a contention window opens?!

I'd rather have Mike Conley/Jeff Teague/Brandon Knight/Ty Lawson/Jrue Holiday than a max contract PG who costs 50% more, but produces only 10% better.
 
The dude averaged 17 and 6 as a rookie, while having great shooting numbers. I think they had a pretty decent idea that was gonna be really freaking good. The only reason his contact was so low is injuries.

So why did his representation settle then for this low number?
I can tell you why. You're forgetting half the equation. He was an older rookie entering the league and other than his glass knees at the time there were other concerns:

Would he be a good numbers bad team number?
His mediocre playmaking could negatively impact teammates and force teams to play him as an undersized Ben Gordon type off ball guard ultimately?
His ballhandling and decision making was highly criticized as highlighted by his turnover ratios and stuff.
He didn't know how to play at least solid defense.
Steph Curry also was a poor inside the arc finisher back then.

And then there's your mentioned injury susceptibility. So that left a player who was great at certain things but could kill you in different ways.
He's become a much better all around player since then minus he still throws the rock away more often than most PGs. That's what made the difference.

I think you are wrong on this one. As far as I remember he had several recurring injuries on his ankles and there were serious doubts if he will be able to stay healthy for long periods of time the year before he signed his contract and that's one of the main reasons for him getting such a contract.

I will be really happy, too. And as it happens... there probably is a slight chance he'd be available where we'd be picking...
 
Towns is so, so raw. No offense Peeks, but you can tell he isn't getting much offensive coaching at UK. Luckily, he is getting a lot of defensive coaching. Pretty good with his positioning and boxing out. He still runs kinda awkward. Not as bad as Turner, but he has a little gait.

He's one hell of a project, that's for sure. I think people expected him to be similar to AD, but he's really not. Not the same fluid athlete that AD is, but who is? I would be happy with him, but we would need to be really patient.

And I know I've heard that he has all the tools on offense, I just haven't seen them yet in a game.
 
Watching Towns next year would be like watching Exum this year. Really frustrating and hoping that his Sophomore year will be better.

Portland missed on Jordan because they had Jim Paxson and had just drafted Clyde Drexler in the previous year... When you are drafting in the lottery always draft BPA!

That is of course if you think that Towns is the BPA. If it's a tie with some wing, I guess need would have to be included in the criteria...

Yeah, probably. There would obviously be flashes, though.

If we end up with the 5th pick and he's still on the board, I couldn't pass on that kind of upside.
