Jazz at Rockets- 4/11 - 6 PM MT - UTAH SCALPS SCOLA!

I had the same thought because things tend to even out. You win one unexpectedly, you lose one unexpectedly. Hopefully it doesn't turn out that way. I didn't think the Jazz had any business winning this game. The Rockets had played well lately and the Jazz not so much, plus they were so...

    Lottery Standings

Sure, but a tie isn't an automatic loss. There's still a 50% or 33% chance there. Also I expect GS will win SOMETHING down the stretch. As poor as their record has been since the Ellis trade, they're still 5-14. That should translate into 1-2 more wins, at least when New Orleans visits...

    Lottery Standings

Updated with Tuesday's games. If Golden State doesn't win another game: 8th Detroit would have to go 2-7 to pass GS (likely) 7th New Jersey, 2-5 to pass (possible, but an additional win or two by GS would make a huge difference) 6th Toronto, 3-5 to pass (possible, but less likely than NJ) 5th...

Jazz V Spurs II Why a back to back with the same team only Stern knows

It's not over yet. Lopez is done for the year in NJ (and I keep waiting for Deron to check out mentally...maybe he won't because it's a contract year, but it wouldn't affect his offers anyway). Bargnani (20ppg) is possibly done in Toronto. Stuckey just got hurt in Detroit last game and if...

Jazz V Spurs II Why a back to back with the same team only Stern knows

This game only directly impacted the Jazz' own pick. When they beat the Warriors the other night, it may have impacted the Utah pick and also the GS pick.

Jazz V Spurs II Why a back to back with the same team only Stern knows

That's kind of where I am. I'm listening to Boler and Harp sell the Kool-aid, but I'm underwhelmed. They took 48 minutes to beat a lottery team (without the big 3). Glad they did it, but I'm not sure it was "AMAZING!"

    Jazz Playoff Watch

I think you're looking at the schedule for what you want to see. You're counting losable games for the Rockets and in the other thread you're counting winnable games for the Jazz. For teams in the .500 range, every game is winnable and every game is losable. You have to use the same method on...

    Playoffs?

I hear you about winnable games, but the Jazz are not playing at such a level that winnable = wins. Look at the last 5 games. What would we have said on March 30? * SAC (3/30): definitely winnable * lac (3/31): if the Memphis game is winnable, this one was as well. I'd argue that both were...

    Jazz Playoff Watch

Agreed. I'd pretty much concede the race to Houston, which is why I didn't mention them. They are 3 games ahead in the loss column, so that's at least three games the Jazz would have to make up. Maybe more because the tiebreaker is decided in Houston Wednesday night. 6-3 might be enough to...

    Playoffs?

I said in another thread that 6-3 might get the Jazz into the playoffs (but Denver has to go 5-5 for that to work), but I just listened to Locke's tipoff and it all seems so rosy. I'm just not sure I can buy into a team that just went 3-6 in the last 9 turning around and going 6-3 in the next...

Spurs - Leaving players home for tonite ?

Originally rumored by @JMcDonald_SAEN, but still unconfirmed: Spurs playing coy, but wouldn't be surprised if none of Big 3 board flight to Utah Stephen Jackson to Manu, upon exiting arena tonight: "See you when we get back." Asked if he was flying with team to SLC, Tim Duncan offered a...

    Jazz Playoff Watch

I'm not quite sure about 5-4. That puts the Jazz at 34 wins, so Denver only has to go 5-5 to beat that (Jazz own tiebreaker based on head-to-head). I know they're just under .500 recently, but 5-5 is within reason. Dallas only has to go 3-6 to tie (Dallas owns the tiebreaker). Not...

    Jazz Playoff Watch

On the one hand: I originally had them at 4-5, but with losses to Dallas and Portland that now seem like they could flip because the Mavs and Blazers are not playing as well as they once were. Maybe 6-3 is possible. On the other hand: The Jazz are also not playing as well (3-6 in their last...

    Lottery Standings

22 wins at this stage is huge. If GS adds one win, they might be OK. If they add two I don't think two teams will catch them. As of right now: Detroit has to go 1-10 to tie, 2-9 to pass (assuming GS doesn't win again). That's likely and I still expect Detroit to win about 4 more and pass...

What do you want to happen friday night?

Same question, but with a whole lot more detail...kind of a best case / worst case scenario. What if I jumped out of my time machine and told you there were two possible outcomes after tonight's game (perhaps I would need an alternate reality machine, but you get the point): JAZZ WIN - Helps...

    Lottery Standings

Eleven games in the NBA today, and ten of them could affect the Jazz' playoff chances or lottery hopes: Pistons at Hawks (more losses for the Pistons!) Grizzlies at Heat (although there's little chance the Jazz could catch the Grizzlies, so this one only has limited impact on the Jazz) Wizards...

What do you want to happen friday night?

I had to reread that as well. I think spycam1 was implying that if the Jazz lose to GS on Friday, it may cost them the playoffs (or contribute to them missing), but it will also help them get the GS pick (perhaps #8). Another fringe benefit would be the Jazz keeping their own pick, which would...

    GSW Draft Pick Watch

Yeah, Toronto's win had me worried, so nice to see GS match it. How many more games does GS win? The only gimme left on their schedule is New Orleans @ GS on April 24, which would put them at 22 wins. The Jazz need them to stumble into a couple more wins like they did tonight.

If we don't get GS pick this year what are the terms for it next year?

And with the caveat that if the Jazz don't get it in 2012, 2013 or 2014, they never do. If the protection holds through 2014, the Jazz will only get 2014 and 2016 second rounders instead of a first round pick.
