    1983-84 Team

Two thoughts: As some have pointed out, the team wasn't bereft of talent. Dantley, Griffith and Bailey (although a rookie) were high draft picks. Eaton and Green, while they had taken the non-traditional path to the league, clearly belonged. Those five are the reason the Jazz won the division...

Millers will never go over the luxury tax...

Not only is the LT more of a hard cap for the league at large, but it has always been a line that teams without unlimited money have had to watch out for. Why? Because the LT exists precisely to benefit those teams--to even the playing field so that the mega market teams can't just pay for all...

    Rush is Worthless

I have looked at it this way. When the trade was made, did the Jazz view Rush as part of the $24M in salary flotsam, for which they were compensated with 5 draft picks? OR did they view him as the sixth asset in the trade, helping justify the $20M the other two guys were making? I honestly...

Utah Denied A Wet Bandit Trade???!!

Late first rounders wouldn't affect the cap space much, in fact barely more than a 2+ year veteran. A two year vet costs the team $915K next year, while picks 25-30 will be in the $1M to $1.2M range for the first season. I'm a little surprised that they would pass up Marvin for a first, but...

Little known rule was utilized tonight

Yeah, it has. Kevin Pelton tweeted that it happened to the Warriors TWICE in the 2009-10 season. In addition, I saw it almost 30 years ago in a Jazz-Hawks game in the Salt Palace. Hawks dressed the minimum number of 8 players, then lost 4 to either injuries or fouls, so one had to stay in.

Why haven't we cut Lucas and given Pierre Jackson a chance?

The Lucas contract isn't guaranteed next year. Fully unguaranteed. https://data.shamsports.com/content/pages/data/salaries/jazz.jsp Start crossing your fingers now.

Raptors at Jazz, 2/3/2014 7PM MT

Don't kid yourself. The Jazz would take castoffs as long as (a) the castoff contracts are expiring, and (b) there's some kind of asset in addition to the castoffs that makes it worthwhile.

Utah has claimed Forward Malcolm Thomas off waivers.

Only he can't be traded for 30 days, which means after the deadline. Could still happen with an amazing break-out season and a trade in June. Make it so, DL!

Utah has claimed Forward Malcolm Thomas off waivers.

I just can't see anyone picking Biedrins up. He's done. I had hoped that he could revitalize himself and contribute for 5-10 minutes a night (low ceiling), but it hasn't happened. He last played (two minutes) 40 days ago. That said, they shouldn't waive him until after the deadline. It's...

Utah has claimed Forward Malcolm Thomas off waivers.

No, not at the end of the season. I should have been more clear. 48 hours after being waived he would have cleared waivers and become a free agent. That's what I was talking about. At that point (sometime today) he would have been available to sign with any team on a 10-day contract. Given...

Utah has claimed Forward Malcolm Thomas off waivers.

Thomas played for the Spurs a couple years ago, so possible that Lindsay scouted him at some point and liked him. Only one game for the Spurs this season, but he grabbed 9 boards in 15 minutes. Could mean a trade is brewing, or could just mean he's a prospect that they wanted to take a look...

Does Golden State need to move a player?

Shouldn't need to. The Warriors had 14 players before the trade, so a 2-for-1 puts them at 15.

Hollinger's playoff odds in relation to the tank rank

Glad to see this is up and running. I looked for it last month and it wasn't available yet for this season. Definitely love to track this although it has its limitations. I started the season thinking 25ish and was congratulating myself when they started out 1-14. However finishing with 28 wins...

Will the Jazz ever amnesty a player?

They don't qualify any more. Favors signed an extension, which disqualified him. Hayward will be a FA in July before the amnesty could be used.

    Burke-Burks-Hayward-Favors-Kanter?

Never mind. If you go to the Jazz home page, you see that stats were last updated November 27. I thought they kept it more current than that. https://www.82games.com/1314/1314UTA.HTM

    Burke-Burks-Hayward-Favors-Kanter?

That's about right. Against the Pacers they played about 2 minutes in the first half, 2 minutes again in the 3rd quarter maybe, and IIRC they closed the last 4:29 of the game. I would have said 7-8 minutes, but it might be 9 like Locke said. As for it not showing on 82games, I wondered about...

A wild tank appears! Power Rankings oversight

Besides that, IMO the Jazz's success doesn't rely on having the worst record in the league, and I don't expect they will when it's all said and done. Some guys will grow into their roles (others may not), the schedule will get easier and I'll be shocked if the Jazz finished last.

    andre iguodala probably tore harmstring

A few recent examples of strained hamstrings: Manu Ginobili (Jan 2013) - 10 days Chris Paul (Jan 2012) - 11 days Corey Maggette (Jan 2012) - 37 days (either more severe or another injury as he was coming back?)
