What's new

1/7/15: Official Game Thread--Utah Jazz @ Chicago Bulls 6PM MT--ROOT, NBALP

I think him having Gobert help him out on defense will make him more aggressive. Hard to always be pumped up on both ends when you are the sole person able to defend anyone. Kind of like how Hayward gets frustrated on offense when no one else can create. He sees Gobert going hard on defense and it allows him to go harder since he doesn't have to worry as much or get frustrated with Kanter's broke ***.

I also think Rudy's personality which is passionate and aggressive may bring it out in him.

I'd still like to keep Kanter. Most of the elite teams have 3 good bigs in their rotation.

Really? Who have the Heat had over the years? The Pacers after Hibbert and West? And please don't say Scola who's garbage. How about the Thunder before Steven Adams arrived? Memphis? I could go on and on. Most teams DO NOT have three good bigs. That's why bigs are so coveted. Good ones are hard to find.

This is a really good point. I would rather get a good guard over having 3 good bigs. 2 good bigs and decent back up sound pretty good. But is kanter decent or good? Idk

always knew favors + gobert can work well

Agreed...blows on finger tips and rubs them on chest. It was about a month ago I said "I can not wait to see Exum, Burks, Hayward, Favors and Gobert starting together." That will be a darn good team in a year or two. Darn if Gobert is not speeding up the time line already. Let me also say that Exum IS going to be a top 10 point guard for the Jazz. Hope it happens faster than it took Hayward to blossom.

It could also be used as a reason to keep Kanter. Keep that which is so highly coveted.

Like a wrecking bull?

...sorry. No. Actually. Not sorry. Owning it.

Miley has really grown up. Is it just me, or is she not quite as ugly as she used to be?

Chicago is one of the toughest teams in the NBA and with how our defense played they looked scared and intimidated. It's been a long long time since our defense has been able to intimidate a team. I Love it.

I'm a huge fan of Gobert and loved how he played tonight, but Favors deserves some big props. He had some good shots go down. Anyone else notice the wrist band and have a brief flashback to Malone and his wristbands?

Anyways....great game. Rudy disrupted their entire offense. Gasol had 13 points and Noah had 1 point! The reigning 1st team All NBA Center(didn't he also get some MVP votes too?) scored 1 point against our defense.
Very very happy with this game.

Biggest Q of the year for me was:
can D-Fav and Bear play together?

Hell yes, they can. The Jazz have found their future frontcourt

X - X - Hayward - Favors - Gobert
I still think Burks will be in that 2 guard slot.
I think he still has alot of upside and is not near his ceiling, yet is already a pretty good player, plus he is under contract for the next 4 years (after this one)

Exum
burks
Hayward
Favors
Gobert

That will be a very nice lineup in 2 or 3 years

The Jazz going into Chicago and beating them by 20 on their home court and Gobert destroying Rose and Gasol is not even a story on ESPN. The only link to the Jazz win is in the recap.

Instead they have the Wolves 13th straight lose and 4 stories about the Cavs...

What a joke lol

I have alot of faith in quin snyder to be able to mold Alec into a very good player.
Maybe even that 3 and D player you have been pining for. (The 3 part has already come a long way and he has the length, speed, and athleticism to be good defensively. Plus he will add some weight to his frame in the next couple of years, booker it. I believe all that is left for Alec to be good defensively is desire and effort. I believe quin can get that out of him)

Don't worry about Alec Fish, he's in good hands. I have no doubt there's room for him in this team, if not a starter he can be a very good 6th man. Plus attitude, plus 'jazziness', plus learning Q's system well, it's all gooood.

Let it be that way, the more abruptly shocked everyone becomes when we start owning, the better story.

Alec's main problem is mental -- which translates to his unimpressive abilities in improvising with other players. There are limits to what a coach can do with this hurdle.

This is the principle difference between a player like Hayward and a player like Burks.

Makes me long for the day when we'd beat the Lakers, and they'd show Kobe make 5 shots. Then one lame lay up or mid range J, and then the score. With a locker room interview snippet from Kobe.

Mental CAN be a better problem than physical. Can't teach height, length, speed, or athleticism imo

You can however, if you are a good enough coach at motivating and teaching, change a players attitude and tendencies.
Also a player could change his attitude and mentality if his situation changes (more winning, better teammates, stable contract, better coaching)

Not saying he is certain to change his mentality when it comes to defense, but if he was going to then I think having snyder for a coach along with teammates dedicated to defense would be the ideal situation for him to make that change.

I guess I just have alot of faith in quin and also alecs ability to with hard and improve (like how he has added to his game every season so far)
