1/7/15: Official Game Thread--Utah Jazz @ Chicago Bulls 6PM MT--ROOT, NBALP

There are a lot of different things that can be categorized as Mental Issues. Creativity/improvisation with others is probably the hardest to fix. It isn't like he'd be trying to fix Burks' professionalism or some other such thing.

Ya you are probably right. It's impossible for Burks to become a better defender
Just like it was impossible for him to play in quins offensive system since Burks can't make the three ball

I just made a New Year's resolution to never talk about Burks with you. Your thing with him has gone beyond weird, btw. Maybe even waaay beyond.

All I'm saying is that if Burks works hard on his defense with quin then it's possible he could become a good defender.

I'm sorry that you think that is such an unreasonable thing to say.
Doesn't seem that crazy to me.

You're missing all the subtleties in what I'm saying (I'm talking about waaaay more than defense)... which is par for the ****ing course... which is why I'm not talking to you about Burks anymore. This is the last post.

I brought up the fact that I thought he has a chance to become a good defender

Do you think he has a chance to be a good defender or do you think that it's impossible? (Due to all the subtleties in what you are saying that are about way more than defense)

Don't worry about Alec Fish, he's in good hands. I have no doubt there's room for him in this team, if not a starter he can be a very good 6th man. Plus attitude, plus 'jazziness', plus learning Q's system well, it's all gooood.

lol. I love this post. I haven't read the entire thread, but why the hell is Burks being discussed here (he is out for the year after all) and why on earth would Burks ever not be a starter? Burks has been penciled in the starting lineup since the day Quin Snyder took over.

Probably a lot easier to defend when you don't have constant pain and discomfort in your shoulder. I'm sure it's easy to fight through screens when you know it's going to hurt like hell as you make contact going through. And if he doesn't improve enough to remain a starter? Then I trust Snyder to move him to the bench where he can be a great 6th man.

Gobert is doing something Kanter never has been able to. BRING IT EVERY GAME. Kanter has great games, some good games, and a whole bunch where he isnt impacting it at all.

Looks like Enes is the odd man out of the bigs right now. I love the idea of bringing him off the bench.

Isn't this the exact comment made about Favors every other week? The Kanter hate on this board is stupid. It's like a psychotic ex girlfriend, changing every other day. There were many on this board that were saying the same thing when Favors was out....that Kanter and Gobert were the future and Favors needed to be traded. Then Gobert and Exum start together and the comments begin about them not being ready to start. If someone yells loud enough that Kanter sucks it must be true. Gobert is going to be really good, and so is Favors, and so is Kanter. There will be a day when this becomes a problem but not today, and not this year. Lighten up Francis.

The reason you hear this talk is that Gobert is better than all of them. So, whichever guy Gobert is playing with, will always look better because Gobert is better. Kanter is the easy guy to pick on because, he's not as good as Favors and Favors is really good, but let's face it, if we were forced to choose between Favors and Gobert, it would be Gobert every time.

Mental CAN be a better problem than physical. Can't teach height, length, speed, or athleticism imo

You can however, if you are a good enough coach at motivating and teaching, change a players attitude and tendencies.
Also a player could change his attitude and mentality if his situation changes (more winning, better teammates, stable contract, better coaching)

Not saying he is certain to change his mentality when it comes to defense, but if he was going to then I think having snyder for a coach along with teammates dedicated to defense would be the ideal situation for him to make that change.

I guess I just have alot of faith in quin and also alecs ability to with hard and improve (like how he has added to his game every season so far)

I am a Burks fan and I approve this message

I agree with you. The big question is which player compliments Gobert better. Not sure I am ready to make that decision based on one game in January.

It's not stupid. I'd rather have Favors bringing it, albeit inconsistently, on both ends of the court, compared to Kanter who's a black hole on offense and basically completely inept on defense.

You wanting Favors over Kanter isn't stupid. Making a decision without the facts is. Kanter is 2 years behind Favors (since he didn't play in college). He has improved a great deal this year on defense. He is a legitimate 20/10 guy and you don't give up on those guys easily. If you want to chose Favors because Kanter is more injury prone or because he is a better fit with Gobert, so be it. But choosing him because he is better than Favors is premature.

i like Kanter and i think he has a lot of good things to offer, but basically even when he has a good game he has very little influence on the game. Rudy changes the game totally. Not fussed if it's now or later, but it's a no brainer that he has to start eventually & if it's affordable i like Kanter as a scoring big off the bench. He could produce similar numbers in less minutes.

There are plenty of minutes at the 4/5 for all 3 bigs, and I agree with Otis that people are acting as if Kanter is as good as he'll ever get. Also, it seems like a lot of people assume Utah makes all of their decisions based on winning now. I believe they have higher priorities this year. If winning now is their top priority, they will trade for a guard by the deadline and Rudy will be starting when Enes comes back. We shall see.
