The Jazz have no choice, excuses for tonights game. Orlando is on a back-to-back. Nelson and Lewis still showed the impacts of stomach virusses caught them nearly a week ago during the Blazers game. They were out of gas and energy in 2nd half against young and running(this is rare) Blazers backourt.
-The Jazz have lost 4 statement games at home, and this game is not even one of those type of games, it's a must win game.
-Portland showed how to make Magic a less efficient, make their three point threat less problematic for opponent defenses. You defend Howard 1-on-1 and let him have a 30-10 performance.
- Howard rarely passes out in the post area when he gets the ball. He might be thinking that since his teammates fall in love with 3s as the game develops, they tend to forget giving the ball to him at the low block.
- Perimeter players of Magic seem to have no idea how to move off the ball, how to contribute to offense, become effective and hold themselves accountable on offense without the ball, or shooting it. None of its players except Howard can blow by their opponent off the dribble or can create his own shot. That's why their offense has struggled. VC was brought to compensate for the lack of ball-handling and lack of creators off the dribble which arrived when Turkoglu left. That has not worked. The Magic offense become stagnant because of it. Lewis takes too many casual threes instead of assisted ones or the ones that are within the system.
- I hope coach Sloan will not make defending the painted area the primary concern, focus of defense. The Jazz bring too much help inside. Honestly, I see exactly NO difference between the way we used to defend the painted area when Boozer/Okur was the duo upfornt and when we have Paul and AJ inside. We do not have to hear Carlos yelling "help Memo, help Paul, let me save my energy to offense so that I can take care of my stats". I do not remember how the Jazz defended Howard in the other game between these teams. I would prefer defending him with one player.
