14th Tank Platoon

You're talking about the potential difference between the 8th-14th and the 1-5th picks, here. Hayward is not worth that and Milwaukee would laugh at the proposal just to swap.

If the Jazz make that trade, then they likely wouldn't end up trading picks. As bad as Hayward has been shooting at times this season, he still makes the team better. So does Marvin Williams. They both go to Milwaukee, they might make a playoff push in the east, and the Jazz are back in tank mode. We would need their pick straight up or their pick next year.

And the Jazz are worse themselves, anyway. Trading Marv and Hayward for a right to swap picks offers massive insurance for the Jazz to get into the lottery either way.

Hayward makes Milwaukee a lot better team now and in the future. Sure the jazz will be worse, but why trade Hayward just to get worse? We need to trade him for something. That way we get worse and get something in return.

How does getting a franchise player in this draft vs. not = not getting something in return to you? On the Pacers, Spurs, Heat, Thunder, or any real contender, is he even your 3rd best player? I'm not convinced, though keeping him for a price suitable his role is something I'd like to do in a perfect world.

lets say the Jazz trade them Hayward and still win with who they have and end up 6th. If Milwaukee gets hayward, makes a run, and ends up 5th, how is moving from 6 to 5 doing anything?

And what if the Jazz's pick is the 12th and Milwaukee gets into the lottery? There are a lot of what ifs. Life is a gamble, there are no guarantees, but you do what you can to improve your odds. There are some moving parts, but getting the right to swap picks improves the Jazz's odds at getting into the lottery by ~2, not to mention strengthening their own pick's odds almost assuredly. Also, in direct answer to your question, what is the difference between Kyrie Irving and Derrick Williams? Or Andre Drummond and Austin Rivers?

What this ultimately comes down to is that I don't think Hayward is an integral piece to a championship and the Jazz should be preparing to lose him anyway (because of an inane offer sheet).

I see what you are saying, I just think Hayward is a good enough player that you want him around. At worst he can give you depth off the bench. I also think they could get more than that for him. I also think if they make the trade, the Jazz still end up around 6-10, and the Bucks improve to around 5-7 range. I just don't want the Jazz to give away what I feel is a valuable player for what I think would essentially be nothing.

And in an answer to your question, the difference between those players is that they worked out. What's the difference between Oden and Durant? Whats the difference between Jordan and Bowie? Whats the difference between Hayward and George? No matter where the Jazz pick they still have to make the right pick.

Cleveland tanking could be a good thing if they're willing to take another guy at 1-3 that they could have gotten at 10. Maybe they'd try to shy away from that this year, though. It's amazing to me that they didn't move down and pick up assets and still get their guy.

Nobody really wanted the #1 that badly for that reason. (I personally would've taken Oladipo or Burke).

Irving potentially done, now Horford is out for the season....

Why is everyone on the face of the earth NOT wearing a Jazz uniform getting hurt? What I'd give to see RJ and Marvin go down...

The question you need to be asking is that with all these injuries WTF are none of them on GSW.

Me and spycam were talkin about clevelands recent picks during the jazz game last night

Waiters at #3 iirc when he wasn't mocked anywhere near there I don't think.
Tristan Thompson also at 3 I think and that was a pretty big reach.
Anthony bennet at #1, they have no idea what they are doing.

Irving was the right guy at #1 but he was also a no brainer pick
