If you have a slave and you have sex with them then that person is your sex slave(not your mistress) and you are a rapist. If you fail to free your progeny from slavery when you have the power to do so then you don't love them.
Srsly T. Jefferson was an important American leader, a revolutionary, a great political thinker, a slave master, a rapist, and a deadbeat dad. Deal with it.
You weren't there, and you didn't know any of that except some historical revisionist working the beat wanted to make the story out like that. I read some of the black descendents personal takes on it.
You pay a market price for a field hand and you need the help, and then you don't stand on the whole "ownership" idea or force the relationships, and sometimes it could be a mutual thing. You live in a culture where you just don't go on facebook with it and make a show of it. Jefferson hated organized religion because he believed each person could have his own internal conscience and belief, and you shouldn't really have to be compliant.
alt, I find that the crop today of SirKicky type believers in social justice really hate people sometimes, or at least cannot bear to recognize the validity of another point of view.
I don't really care much about Jefferson. He could have been just another human with a whole set of inconsistent beliefs and actions who happened to have some influence in his day. It doesn't matter what he was. It doesn't matter what Hitler was, either, when it is an idea's merits that I'm talking about. Hitler, and Napolean, and probably David Rockefeller as well, all considered their influence or leadership on the world stage to count more than the ordinary stupid bloke, and were/are willing to let humans die in "the greater good" of having their way with the world.
At the very least, Jefferson expressed some ideas or beliefs that human beings have intrinsic self worth and innate rights to weigh in on their own government.
You dismiss that with possibly unfounded or untrue. . . well, not very well-documented assertions. Is it the idea of human rights you are really contemptuous about. I think so. A lot of pretty smart people have that problem, it is the first reaction to having the sweet delusion that you are right, and that you should make sure others do as you think.
when you attack people with more ad hominem stuff than discussion of principles, you are basically an abusive human being yourself.
You come across like that to me sometimes, most very dedicated ideologues on the left today do that even more than the most contemptible conservatives do.
So your response above I consider pretty worthless, and I know you are capable of doing better.
