Quick question. I assume it was known around NBA circles that the Jazz really liked Devin Harris. Rumors were that Dallas was trying to trade for Harris so they could make a run at Deron this summer and entice Utah with Harris. Now, if Utah really does like Harris that much, why would they take a pg in this draft? Wouldn't that defeat the purpose in obtaining Harris? Now, I know some will say take BPA but in this draft there really is no BPA. Every single player has upside and downsides. Can you really argue Knight is a more sure pick than Bismack or Burks? They all have a lot of talent and a lot of weaknesses.
Now, if Utah really feels this strongly about Harris, what happens if they get the #1 pick? If I am Utah, I look to trade this pick. You are picking between a pg (where you already feel like you are set at, and also, this isn't a Jordan vs Bowie or Durant vs Oden thing. PG's don't win championships) and a six foot seven PF. I say no thank you. If you end up with the #1 or #2 pick, let some other GM dig their own grave. Ideally would be to trade the #1 pick to Cleveland (who apparently loves Irving) for their pick next year. Toss in the GS pick if you have to. Then at twelve take the BPA which would probably be between Leonard, Burks, or other similar wing. That is what I want to have happen if we win the lottery (unless Williams suddenly measures at six foot nine, or has incredible lateral quickness allowing him to play the three. If Williams tests out at either of those things, then screw what I just said and draft the guy).
Screw another pg and screw a more skilled Millsap. After watching the NBA playoffs this year, a pg or a small PF will not take us to the promised land. We need length, athleticism, and wing scoring. Williams and Irving do not give us any of that.
Flame away.
