2011 draft.....

Here's a video of Valanciunas. He sure is skinny.

Ugh... Dude would be lucky to have a Kosta Koufus career from what I saw out of that video. Soft, weak, and not very athletic. wouldn't be able to bang or rebound with his lack of strength. And would just get stuffed all the time with his lack of lift.

Compares him to Kristic. Gross. I'll pass if you don't mind.

But why does Jonathan Givony rate him as the number 3 prospect in the draft? I mean I expect to be more impressed and I too am not. But I respect the DX site so I keep wondering what I'm missing.

Darko too was ranked high.

I'm guessing because he's got a long reach and decent offensive skills while being real young. In this draft, that might be cool. Dude has potential. But lets not go bust for a guy that probably will never even come over to play in Utah anyway.

Lets get something a little more proven. At least something athletic, like Biyombo or something. I'd rather have us piss away a draft pick on Kemba or Knight than really screw up with drafting this dude. To me, he adds nothing to our team.

Biyombo at least would add some athleticism, rebounding, and shot blocking.

Yeah, I think I prefer Bismack. Because I know he's going to give a lot of effort + long arms + athleticism. A better Ben Wallace maybe.

um he averages about 15 rebounds per 40. Love type numbers and remember he plays in a pro league against men in their 20s and 30s. Also European teams rarely have the same type of lifiting programs that a NBA team does. Almost every scout/team has him highly rated. Only thing that might hold him back from going top 6 is his contract.

Given the fact that the euro will be a big I too see no point in bringing them over right away. The Jazz frontcourt is full so they don't need a big (unless he's a dominant center) and the BPA will probably be a euro big - one that's not ready yet.

But we only have two guys over 6'8" who we know are going to play next year.

What do you guys like about Valanciunas? I haven't followed him a lot. He seems to be lacking weight quiet a bit. He may also be the furthest from producing out of any of the guys in the draft but has great upside. ESPN shows him as a 6'10 PF, do we really need a Euro PF? I really like Biyombo because he is a defensive specialist with good athleticism, great weight, is very young and a great rebounder. Sway my opinion on Jonas!

We hope Biyambo is very yound. :)

Healthy Memo is a floor spacing big who would be of interest to most contenders. Not as a starter, those days are over. But he's absolutely one of the Top 5 shooting big men in the game. If Memo can adapt to a 20 minute role we could actually get something for him. The only reason to trade Memo before the season is as a salary equalizer for a higher dollar player.

If Memo's playing 20 MPG, that means Millsap, Jefferson, and Favors will be playing about 25 MPG. That is pure garbage.

I would rather Utah take Knight, Walker and Jimmer of this dude. What if he is really 26? And do we really want him to take minutes from Millsap, Favors, or Big AL? Nope!! Draft what we need either a PG, or SF

Medical testing all but close the discussion on the age of Biyombo. And that is besides that he wasn't born in a bush out in the savannah with no doctor present. He has an actual birth certificate and was born to a prominent family. And about minutes, an advantage with Biyombo is that it is feasible he could still play overseas next season. Besides that, he will only get minutes if he deserves them. He has a lot to learn and the Jazz have good players for the big rotation as it is, but in the longterm, I can see Biyombo being the C of the future for the team. Memo on the other hand, is a much different situation.

DX has reports had x-rays done to confirm his age a couple of years ago. Biyombo is at most 20. It is still likely that he is 19 as hey says he is.

I think we just need to draft the two players who we think are going to be the best NBA players in a couple of years. We can't get too worried about position.

A player that you could project Biyombo to be more realistically would be Kendrick Perkins. While I think we all hope he's Amare Stoudemire and Ben Wallace at the same time, I think getting a young, healthy Perkins is pretty ****ing nice, too.

Good points and I agree Memo has to go. I hope it happens at the draft and Utah gets some youth and a pick. And I don't mind waiting on a Euro big to come over in a few years. But I'd really like to see Utah get a few rotation players, for next year. I just hate watching games. Just to have them choke in the last 5 minutes and lose!

This is first time I have seen footage of Valaciunas. Here is what I took away from the video.

He is a very mobile 7 footer. He has good big-man fundamentals. Catches the ball high and finishes high. Appears to be well coached-- moving to the right open areas to balance floor. Appears to have good hands and coordination. He picked up lose balls and was instantly ready to score around the hoop.

He doesn't look to block shots as much as he cut people and forced them to shoot over him.

Physically he resembles Pau Gasol with a less developed left hand. He obviously doesn't have Pau's level of skill. But he could become a poor man's Pau. His defense skills appear to be ahead of his offensive skills.

I like him a lot better than I did before.

Anderson Varajeo seems like a similar player as well.

Here are some highlights of him in Euroleague.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iruI_sTo6y0&feature=related

He doesn't near as quick or coordinated in this video.

He is playing against men and is overpowered several times. His offensive game is very raw.

He has 3 main good points.

He is really tall and long. He can catch the ball. He works hard on defense and pursues rebounds. I don't know if that is enough for our picks.

Biyombo is a lock at #3 on my draft board, and I don't see that changing. As NUMBERICA stated, it is a total bonus that he can play in Europe next season if needed.

Memo's expiring contract could be worth a lot more than expiring contracts were worth last season; there could be a handful of teams desperate to cut their payrolls. I can't see why we would put him on the floor again.

I'd still pass on this weak euro.

I'd rather take an athletic banger, like Biyombo. Or one of the many wings, Jones, Leonard, etc. We don't need to draft a guy that in 2-3 years might come over and become the next Anderson Varejao... That's what we have Tomic for.

Lets get something a little more proven... Or hell, just something that weighs 200 lbs. Expecting to come and play in the NBA at 6'11" with the size and strength of these euros is nothing more than a pipedream (Damn! Donatas is 7 feet 215. Dude makes AK look like Karl Malone. If we had Deron still that would mean our PG weighed about as much as our center!).

The NBA is a man's league. Time for some of these kids to hit the weight room.

Good point.

Also some good points about Memo's PT. time to rep you...
