What's new

2011 draft.....

You are making these statements based on the assumptions that the Jazz FO will not make any changes than drafting the players, which I don't think is going to be the case.

I believe Barnes will be the best fit for the Jazz no matter what though. Sadly, that almost always means it won't happen........

What changes can they make?

Have you looked at our finances this next year? And have you looked at the FA class?

Even if there isn't a lockout and the cap remains about the same, who do you think the Jazz are going to sign?

I'm just hoping the Jazz can get either Barnes or Kanter with their first lottery pick. That's assuming there's nothing to worry about Kanter's knees.

The second lottery pick I don't know just yet until I learn a little more about the prospects I think Jimmer is a great place to land.

Yes I have, and there are always some other ways to make the team better than just right out signing a player or players. For example, if Kirilenko is signed by another team, we can negotiate a trade exception so that we can pull off something like we did for Jefferson. Of course this is based on the existing rules.

Kevin O'Connor, whether you like him or not, has done some unthinkables that help the team. I always thought he would stand put but he surprised us with many moves. This is going to be an exciting offseason, especially if this is going to be a shortened one.

Kanter is worth a long look indeed. Love the way he attacks the rim, boards, and his jump shot apparently isn't bad either.
Any word on his defense?

Someone is forgetting there will be a new CBA that might not have trade exceptions and possibly have a hard salary cap.

Big men with a history of injury proneness. Questions about their knees and feet...

How easily we forget Greg Oden and Curtis Borchart...

I'll pass on Kanter and take a decent SG/SF/PG rather than watch him sit out all of next year with a broken foot or microfracture surgery.

Exactly.

Then comes that whole issue that in order to play for the Jazz one has to live in Utah.

Utah, isn't exactly the greatest place for non-mormon African-American athletes, looking for a warm climate, plenty of nightlife, and a beach.

I am quoting myself "Of course this is based on the existing rules" so no, I am not forgetting. Simply pointing out that KOC is more creative than what people are giving him credit for.

I referenced Borchardt on the previous page. I said:
I like Kanter. My only concern is his knees. Don't want another Borschardt experience.

Upon further study there is some question that a knee issue is overblown. I'm happy this knee issue is out there as it might be the only thing that makes people gunshy and allows Kanter to fall the the Jazz. If he truly has a chronic issue with his knees then I don't want him either. But I definitely want more information before blindly accepting he has a knee issue (without second and third opinions) and end up passing on a guy who broke the Nike Hoop Summit scoring record, previously held by Dirk Nowitzki.

It's easy to say No. But at some point the Jazz FO has to say yes to someone.
I'm not saying they should say yes to Kanter. But they should definitely scour his knee issue before discarding him from their draft board.

i think KOC has done a pretty decent job as well. Hard for Utah to attract and keep players and we are not going to pay the type of luxury tax that a LA, Dallas, or others will. We are pretty well positioned for the future. Just gotta hope the draft picks work out and perhaps Tomic might be a decent NBA player.

If the Raptors win the Lottery it seems to me it be smarter to get Irving. They already have a scoring wing who is suppose to be pretty good in Derozan.

Raptors need one of the euro bigs more than Barnes. To pass on Jonas or Kanter and keep going with Charmin Bargnani would be an epic fail by that franchise.

The funny thing about the draft is, after the next two weeks, the lottery picks will be completely different. Remember Hayward? Roy? He was supposed to go in the low 20's to the Jazz, then the NCAA Tourney happened and he went top 5. My bet is that Nolan Smith plays himself into the top 10. If Duke makes a deep run, he makes a ton of money. Jimmer is another example. If BYU loses in the first week, he probably falls out of the lottery. If they lose in the second week, he probably goes late lottery. If Jimmer were somehow able to carry his team to the final four, some dumb team would get caught up in the hype and take him early. I will seriously start looking at all of this after the next two weeks happen.
