Im from Des Moines, Iowa. I played against Harrison Barnes in High School. This kid is no thug. He is an extremely hard worker and smart. He was amazing to everyone in Iowa. He is finally starting to get the college game down. I think he would fit our system so perfectly. His athletisicm is so underrated.
I thought we don't have a second round pick.
And please somehow get Derrick Williams. Dude can score, shoot, defend, rebound and is an athletic freak.
I like what I see of him a lot. Do we have a 2nd rounder though? I thought it went to the Bulls.
Kenneth Faried--I'd like him more if he can dribble-drive. Any insight here? TIA.
If we do miss the playoffs we really do need to look at Fredette with our own pick. Only have 1 PG under contract next year and Fredette can actually shoot the ball unlike most of the backup PGs we have had. Yes, his ability to guard NBA point guards is a concern, but late lottery sounds about right for him.
I don't know if you two are aware, but lottery picks are all first rounders (Prodigy is talking about Utah's 1-16 protected that was traded to Minnesota).
I'm thinking the pick will pretty much stay at #6. NJ has an easy schedule (13H 10A), including the next 7 at home. Deron makes them a better team, and if he starts hitting a few shots, I could see them get to 27-28 wins. The next closest team is the Clippers, who are 3 1/2 ahead. They had been playing decent ball until going on a long road trip (2nd longest in NBA history). I think they'll finish ahead of NJ. Detroit is a mess and probably gives up completely within a week. They won't win more than a few games. But they're 4 ahead so maybe they'll still finish ahead of NJ. I don't see any of the teams behind NJ making up any ground, especially with Toronto having 2 games @ NJ this week. After looking at the standings I just don't see how we get above the 7th pick. They're not going to catch the Clippers, but they could catch possibly the Pistons.
Looking at the teams 1-5, Toronto, Sacramento and Washington are only a game and a half back. I don't see Minny losing their spot and same with the Cavs even though the Cavs have won 3 out of the last 6. I have high expectations this could be a #3 pick, especially if Deron would rest and/or some lottery luck

So, depending on the outcome of the lottery, Utah will be slotted in around #6-#7 - probably no chance at Derrick Williams, Irving or Perry Jones, but maybe able to get a SF like Terrence Jones or Harrison Barnes.
I did some looking into all of the SG options in the draft.
I wish there was a way to insert a table into the post to keep it readable.

The ones I like are Brooks, Thompson, and Honeycutt, and maybe Hamilton for their defense, and three of those can really score as well.
I immediately dismissed anyone under 6-5, because I don't think we should go shorter than 6-5 for our SG.
Of the remaining SG options on my list, Lighty has the best A/TO ratio.
Burks and Brooks are tops in PPS, so are the most efficient as to scoring.
Honeycutt, Hamilton, and Brooks rebound the best.
Thompson is the best with assists, but is also the worst in TO's.
I was going to post a youtube video of Marshon Brooks 09-10 highlights because he is my favorite of the group, but look it up yourselves. I don't think the song lyrics would make it through the filter
DraftExpress: As an isolation scorer, Jimmer Fredette ranks 19th in NCAA (min 50 poss). Top 3: Reggie Jackson, Andrew Goudelock, Charles Jenkins
His nearly 2,500 career points – he's the active leader in the NCAA – is the mark that garners the most attention from fans and casual observers, but it is the versatility and efficiency in which he gets his offense that draws the intrigue of pro scouts. According to data from Synergy Sports Technology, Jenkins ranks as the second most efficient isolation threat in the NCAA (after Andrew Goudelock), scoring on over 50% of his attempts when going one on one (minimum 50 possessions). He also ranks in the top-10 in pick and roll situations and in the top-25 as a catch and shoot threat.
Amongst NCAA prospects classified as point guards in the DraftExpress database, Jenkins currently trails only Kyrie Irving (who played just 8 games this season) in both True Shooting Percentage, and Effective Field Goal Percentage. This speaks not only to the tremendous shooter that Jenkins has developed into over the course of his career, but also the impressive shot selection he has shown this season despite the need his team has for him to score.
Charles Jenkins is a nice combo guard(PG/SG) that is projected to go late in the 2nd round

I've said since the trade that Honeycutt should be the guy we target. Read his profile. What's not to like? He's a bit skinny? So is Durant and by all accounts, this kid makes up for it. His mediocre to average shooting. Again, so what? Look at Wade's and Lebron's numbers. The kid has a great shooting stroke and has so many skills that it should jump off the page at us.
That said, I want to see which player stands out in the tourney. NBA studs usually showed up in the tourney. See Carmello, Wade and Rose. Other studs didn't play college ball. See Howard, Kobe, Lebron, etc. So of the guys we're targeting, I want to see which guy has the 'It" factor.
Durant can do what he does largely because he CAN shoot. Wade and Lebron have done what they've done despite not being revered shooters because they are powerful players. If the kid is neither a shooter nor powerful, that's significant.
So I guess elite athleticism is what stands out more than anything else?
So I guess elite athleticism is what stands out more than anything else?
Who do you take IF we have a top 3 pick? Perry Jones is a 6 foot 11 Small Forward, that can play 2 from what I've heard. Still isnt fully there with the jump shot. Irving is compared to as what I see as a good scenario - Chris Paul, and bad - Mike Conley.
Derrick Williams is a Power Forward, and we've done got Favors and Millsap.
This draft looks weak, almost the whole top 10 on the big board are freshman. But if you go with anyone, I'd say Perry Jones. Guy could turn out to be a Jonathan Bender, or a Kevin Durant.
