2011 draft.....

Given the situation, the Jazz really need to take the BPA regardless of position or be willing to trade the pick. We aren't really settled at any position right now. The Jazz need to leverage the pick and go for a superstar.

I ran ESPN's Mock Draft Lottery Machine and it had us taking this guy with the 14th pick:

The Jazz will take Jimmer if he's available.

If the Jazz win the lottery, the Jazz take Jimmer.

If the Jazz don't win the lottery, the Jazz take Jimmer.

The Jazz draft board pretty much looks like this:

1. Jimmer
2. Jimmer
3. Jimmer
4. Jimmer
5. Jimmer
6. Jimmer
7. Jimmer
8. Jimmer
9. Jimmer
10. Jimmer
11. Jimmer
12. Jimmer
13. Jimmer
14. Jimmer
15. Jimmer
16. Jimmer
17. Jimmer
18. Jimmer
19. Jimmer
20. Jimmer
21. Jimmer
22. Jimmer
23. Jimmer
24. Jimmer
25. Jimmer
26. Jimmer
27. Jimmer
28. Jimmer
29. Jimmer
30. Jimmer

im a texas jazz fan. the longhorns have a really good team this year, with the likes of Joseph and Thompson, both freshmen, and jordan hamilton a sophomore. hamilton is a good shooter and is projected late lottery, but he is a solid wing, great coming off curls

Really depends on how many of the freshman stay in school. If they all declare I dont think it will be to bad.

If there is a lockout then this draft will suck big time. The good college players will stay in school one more year instead of opting for the NBA. So this draft could really suck. With DW going to NJ perhaps they improve enough to keep the Jazz from getting a higher pick. I am not so worried about that because their division is pretty tough especially now that NY has Melo and Billups. Maybe DW gets his wrist hurt and the Nets beat out Washington for worse record.

What the Jazz FO needs to do now, other than exploring more trades, is to use the amount they save to double or triple pay the Spurs scouts (or whoever in charge of the drafts) to come work for the Jazz before or once the season ends. Oh, and fire the guys who did ours.

People keep talking about Harrison Barnes as a good pick.
Is this the same Harrison Barnes that shoots 40%, 31% from 3pt range and gets .6 steals and .4 blocks a game? Is this really who we want as a wing player?

I do like Leonard from SDSU, he is a stud. He also doesn't shoot that great, but he is a good defender, and a great rebounder.

I like Derrick Williams a lot. He can rebound, is a good defender, and is shooting 60+% from the field, and almost 63% from 3pt range.

As to SG, the only one I've seen that would be worth a pick is that Brooks kid from Providence. Look him up.

Barnes has had his rough stretches this year. He was the #1 freshman going into the season. Definitely struggled from 3pt range. We will see how he does in the ACC and NCAA tournaments soon.

Jesus. Those Williams percentages are insane. His PPS is 2.05 and considering it was 1.72 as a frosh, I doubt it's some anomaly. My big concern with him would be his tweener status. Based on what I've read about him, his listed height and his stats, I highly, highly doubt he's playing the 4 in the NBA. Knowing that, how's his lateral quickness to defend NBA 3's? How's his footspeed and ability to create as a 3 in the NBA on the offensive end?

I'm warming up this draft some with him and Irving up top.

If Irving comes out I think the Jazz have to do whatever it takes, within reason, to nab that kid. I'd do something along the lines of the Dwill trade to move up, i.e. 2 firsts and maybe a future first.

With the looming lockout, there's a really good chance many of the top prospects will not enter the 2011 draft. Many of them are a afraid the lockout will be a long one, and hurt their development and potential draft position in 2012.

This pick we got is not looking so hot right now, unless we can package it for something.

This is currently my biggest concern with the package we got for Deron.

But let's pretend that the draft plays out like any other and the Jazz don't make the playoffs. I'd like Jordan Hamilton with the Jazz's pick (assuming he doesn't fly up the draft boards or plummet).

I need to do some more research on Kemba Walker, but obviously there are some question marks there even if he's had some amazing games.

Let's not forget that farting the rest of the way through the season improves our own 2nd round pick.

...

We have a 2nd round pick this year, right?

Cleveland's #1 guy is Irving too. Let's hope the lotto balls do well by us.

The Cavs also have the Clips 1st rounder. Good for them.

Yah,and Barnes is also only 18 years old. His body is not even full grown yet. The Jazz are young enough now they could take a gamble on this guy rather than drafting a quality "system" guy like Jimmer. You only need a couple system guys and Hayward is enough for me.

I just hope somehow the Jazz could land Derrick Williams. He is the complete package. If not him, I'd really hope for Harrison Barnes or Terrance Jones.

I watch quite a bit of college basketball, trust me when I say that Hayward is a better 2-guard than Harrison Barnes.

If Irving doesn't come out this year, trade our Net's first for a team that's gonna have a lottery pick next year and take Irving and Austin Rivers (Doc's son). That would be one hell of a backcourt for the future.

I was wondering the same thing. Trouble is, there probably wouldn't be any decision about a lock-out before the draft. So there will be lots of uncertainty. And according to this article, serious negotiating probably wouldn't begin until Nov. 15, when the players are set to receive their first paychecks.

I wonder if the uncertainty will cause some of the marginal players to sign overseas deal right away.
