What's new

2013 Chicago Combine May 15-19

For the record, Tony does not want CJ McCollum on the Jazz.

I'm not sure what he says about it off the record.

NO: Oladipo (Defense and shooting)
Cha: Noel (Tank one more year)
Cle: Porter (In need of a SF)
Pho: Len (True big) - they've already got Gotat. They really need guard scoring, McCollum would be a GREAT pick here.
Sac: Bazz (Because they need more shot takers)
Was: Zeller (Rebounder and scorer)
Min: KCP (Outside shooting is a must) - this would be like picking Wesley Johnson at #4 all over again. They've learnt that lesson
Por: Bennett (Takes the load off of Aldridge and Lillard)
Phi: Adams (Big with a ton of upside (stealth tank job))
OKC: Olynyc (Proven big that can contribute immediately)
Dal: Schroe/Saric (Schroe cause he's German/Saric cause he can create mismatches and his upside)
Uta: McCollum (There you go)

Ok, you asked me to come up with a realistic scenario that the Jazz could get McCollum. I did that.

Now, let's talk about your complaints. Detroit already has Brandon Knight. He can be their SG with Burke being the PG. Not to mention that Burke is a hero in Michigan right now. Detroit would have a core of Burke, Knight, Monroe and Drummond. That sounds like a great start.

Phoenix: The Suns have one year left of Gortat at 7.7 million. They also have Dragic and Marshall for a while. I agree they need scoring but they don't need another PG. Len is the best fit because he can score on the inside and (from hat I've heard) he has a decent pick and pop game. Dragic knows how to work with a guy like that. The other side to this is the Suns get size but not a mature game. They want to rebuild and Len is a piece that they could start to build around. Next years draft is full of wings and this draft is full of bigs. Take a big this year that is not ready and they will have a terrible record so that they can get a wing with huge upside next year.

Minnesota: They are in desperate need of outside shooting. They also have one of the best distributing PG's int he game right now. Rubio could turn Pope into a lethal scorer while still having Love and Pekovic down low doing their thing.

Like I said, I gave you a situation that could very well land the Jazz CJ.

Another thig to consider, jazz fans complain nearly every game about the defense seen from our PGs. And we somehow believe someone who only played 2-3 zone for the orange to somehow be good at defense? Has there ever been a good defender come out of the orange? All I can say is be careful be careful be careful.

A big guard's lack of quickness and ability to stay in front of his man could have been cleverly hidden in Jim boeheim's 2-3 zone.

I say this all the time. Good post.

McCollum is one of the safest picks in the draft. TBH, I think I might rather have him than Brandon Knight. He can create his own shot and score from just about anywhere on the floor. Good ability to have.

Problem I had with Knight wasn't the fact that he's not a true PG, it was that he's too 1 dimensional. Pound the ball, shoot the 3's.

McCollum seems to be more than that, he can take it off the dribble, get to the rim, has that mid range game, and he can shoot the 3's.

Who's this Ledo dude and why do we want him?

He shot lights out and strong, hit a lot of pull up shots, got to the rim. I don't know if there are any videos or anything of him though. Just a strong potential player.

CJ mccollum is going to be one of the safest and probably best picks in the draft. I'd say he looks more like d-lil than anything else. At the absolute very worst, he's Ben Gordan. But the sky is the limit IMO. I think he's going to have a very long and successful nba career.

And personally, for those who gripe about needing an "assist" pg, folks, we need a pg who can do both. The problem is, devin Harris sucked and Mo has never been a very good starter. In fact, wasn't he the 8th or 9th man last year for the clips?

All the top point guards in the league today have the ability to score. And as the nba is designed (rules prohibiting hand checking and physical perimeter play) has made it necessary for a pg to score. Just look at how Conley has taken over for thegrizz. Look at how Ty Lawson, cp3, curry, parker, heck even Nate Robinson took over. Get the ball and score.

Shane Larkin is the point guard we should be going after, son a previous successful professional athlete. Athletic testing on this kid was outstanding that he could stay in front of his man and also blow by the man guarding him.

If he can shoot as well as Nate Robinson he might have a chance.

I just looked it up. He is smaller than Nate Robinson. Yes Larkin is taller but Nate has longer arms and weighs more. Both of them test out as very good athletes. He shoots the ball pretty well but 4.6 apg vs 2.3 TOpg is troubling. Miami had a serious talent advantage almost every night. That makes the TO's worse in my book.

I believe he will be able to score/shoot well in league. I am not sure he will be able to guard very many people. He won't be the starting PG on Championship team IMO ever. He could be a guy off the bench but he is just too little.

I watched him a bit this year. You're exaggerating.

Just saying what everyone else is and what the video shows. He was chewed out by his coach in front of everyone because he sucks so bad on defense. You can say at times average defense, but not good.
