What's new

2014 College Football

I'm not bagging on the SEC at all. They are #1. And, though I took a jab at Miss St, I'm rooting for anyone that has that many former Utes associated with it. They look good this year. BUT, why does LSU get a pass for losing to Miss St, and the PAC-12 gets knocked down a notch because USC beat Stanford?

Just a bit of bias.

Didn't LSU get knocked down the most in the AP Poll?

They did, but I'm whining about the "chatter". Oregon struggles on the road vs a desperate team and all of the sudden they suck.

The good news is, if the PAC-12 wants to make me look good, alls they gots ta do is win the playoff this year. Expose the SEC.

I used to follow/read this thread and then it turned into nothing more than green and his clear dislike (hatred) of BYU and fish trying to convince him otherwise.

BTW, Ute fans will never be able to convince me they're "over the rivalry". Just reading two posts by green is ample evidence of how wrong that thought is.

I get that, I just think that the PAC has some pretty dynamic QB's and that might have something to do with higher scoring games.

It's not even in to the Pac season yet. You guys are ranked low....against the Charmin schedule the lot of you has played. What's there been, two or three Pac games yet? The Pac has an average defensive ranking of 62 right now. They've got the 100th ranked team, 94, 91, 87, 83, 81, 74, 73, 55, 29, 6, 1. Nothing wrong with being the new era WAC I guess. But also, it's best to stop pretending you're playing tough teams every week because you're not. Every college football team out there is wishing they had it so easy. Pac football is like a glorified 7 on 7 passing tournament. Explosive teams? Maybe.

And #6 is an Oregon State team that has played a FBS school, the 90th rated offense, and the 99th rated offense. They will be that 62 range before too long.

And #29 is Utah, who has played two teams ranked in the 70's in offense, and a FBS team. Same deal with them. You guys won't be able to cover anybody.

Your obvious agenda is twofold.

#1- Use defensive rankings 4 games into the season as a means to justify Mariota's numbers on your never ending quest to fool yourself into thinking Taysom should be a Heisman winner.

And....

#2- Use the soft scheduling argument in an effort to make it sound as if BYU's 2014 schedule is on par with the P5 schools as a whole.

The 2 problems with those arguments:

#1- When all of the regular season games have been played, Mariota will have games against Michigan St, UCLA, Stanford, and Utah on his resume. And if I may stand up for my good buddy Cy for a minute, a candidate like Dak will have a resume with LSU, Auburn, Ole Miss, and Alabama under his belt. If you're a "Taysom for Heisman" guy, step into reality and accept the fact that this season is all abou Hill positioning himself for a realistic run in 2015 when BYU actually plays some teams on the road that will actually boost his resume.

And....

#2- BYU's schedule is what it is. Im sure at the end of the year, if BYU's SOS lands at #50, you'll be in here touting how many p5 schools they finished ahead of. Fact of the matter is, Central Florida will have been your toughest road game and Virginia or Utah State will have been your toughest home game. No conference show downs with something on the line, no potential trips to a conference title game, etc. Use numbers all you like, if that's a schedule you want to hang your hat on while you pound on your chest demanding national respect for BYU, god bless ya.

Sounds a bit like bitter jealousy TBH.

Thanks for the neg, green.

I really don't have the time, nor the energy, to go back and forth with you about Taysom vs. Wilson.

And yes, the BYU fan holding up the sign about wanting Bama is a total moran. Every BYU fan I've talked to realizes that while this team is better than last year, it's not in that ballpark. There is no way in hell BYU should be considered for the playoff. I don't think they should be considered for one of the New Year's games, either. Not with how shaky the defense has looked the last two games.

so basically every byu fan in this thread has been realistic about byu and honest...... yet ute fans are always saying that byu fans think byu will get into the playoffs.

Something doesn't add up.

Ute fans who are over the rivalry, doe.

How about those UCLA Bruins, boys? They looked like trash on offense in the first 3 games....and then put 62 on the first Pac team they play. Soft. ***. League.

Fair enough.

Of bad defense? Of a team that can't even make it to bowl games? Guilty. We're ranked, you're not. Deal with it.

I think that changes this week when the Utes take down Washington St.

fyi Utes 2nd in the nation in sacks and tackles for lost yards. That isn't anyone's opinion that's a fact. just sayin

I guess you're right but please don't rub it in. You'll get your chance for BYU to prove just how tough they are when they face heavyweights such as Utah State, UNLV, Middle Tennessee State, and Savannah State going forward.

If Utah does win that game.....I'd be impressed. That Halliday kid has been lights out.....even if they are 1-3....you never know against guys like that. I don't know if voters would agree. We'll see, but certainly they go could go MSU and jump BYU in the rankings if they beat UCLA in a few weeks so I better get all the trash talk out in the meantime.

UCLA is now 4-0 with three road P5 wins. Wow. How impressive is that? How many teams have the guys to schedule that, then go ahead and win? Very impressed with UCLA. Like I said earlier, they're my #1 team and it's not close.

College football has changed with the playoff. The beauty pagent is over. It's wins and losses now.

Lol. Great post. I'd add that outside of Pullman, WSU is 0-2 this year. Big game for Utah. They should win. But could lose. This the type of game they'd lose the last two years.

Lol. How many yards did you give up to a weak Virginia team? Lol.

I'm really not being inflammatory when I say this, but didn't the Utes get outgained last week by a team that hasn't scored an offensive touchdown in two weeks? I don't think this is a smart talking point for Ute fans. If an anemic offense can do that to Utah, what will happen when you face the high-powered offensive attacks in your conference?

The Utes have to keep up the pressure on Halliday and avoid 3 and outs. With the good special teams play the Utes have I think they can win this game and look good doing it. If it turns into a shootout all bets are off. Cautiously optimistic.

I didn't take your post as inflammatory but I feel like the smack talk is fine when looked at in this context:

-Yes, Michigan is horrible offensively but defensively they're good. They sport a top 10 run D and a nasty front 7. That being said, Utah did go on the road and get out gained by 20 something yards.

-BYU played at home against a school with poor offensive rankings. Virginia is 90th in the nation rushing and that is after you account for 192 rushing yards BYU. The Cougs got outgained by nearly 200 yards at home and gave up over 500 yards of offense to a team that averages nowhere near that.

Now, since there's no common opponent, there's really no apples-to-apples comparison for Utah and BYU but so far in this early season I'm quite content with Utah's offensive and defensive production.
