2014 College Football

I've often wondered why Cy insists on talking MSU football on a site where literally nobody else gives a ****. It seems like it would be a much more fulfilling endeavor engaging in the discussion with people who actually care.

I'd been thinking about joining a MSU fan board and force feeding the masses my opinions on Utah football, including doing constant in-game updates for Ute games but then I remembered, I'm not an *******.

FMS?

BYU should definitely be ranked. They have looked good for the moments I have watched them. Hill is probably the 2nd best dual threat QB behind Prescott.

Some guy named Mariota at Oregon might not agree. Dak does seem like he has a better feel for the passing game. Taysom probably is a more explosive runner, but we're talking about quarterbacks so those things don't equal each other out. Got to go with the better passer, so I would agree that Dak > Taysom. Probably not by much though.

Although personally, I like guys that throw 50 times a game and pick apart defenses. Give me a Kellen Moore type college QB for my team over the DAK/Taysoms of the world any day.

I feel like Mariota has a lot more empty stats just because of how much Oregon likes to throw and run scores up. I think if Dak can carry MSU to a undefeated or 1 loss season, he will beat him in a Heisman race.

Taysom is for sure more explosive. The way he can accelerate out of cuts is ridiculous for how big and strong he is. Dak is more of a north/south runner who is just going to break tackles and gain speed in the open field. He also benefits from having a lot of big receivers, which really helps in the redzone.

Oregon/Mariota would have to go in the toilet too. He's got way too much momo behind a Heisman run....and for 2 years. I just don't see that stopping. Their schedule is loaded with teams in that 80 range in defensive ranking. Stanford is probably the only legit top 50 defense they'll play from here on out. The Pac is weak.

All credibility...gone.

Sadly, because Jazzfanz isn't a UofU message board, what you've described isn't equivalent to what he's doing.

Not exactly the equivalent. Yes, this is a general college football thread, and Cy can obviously post whatever he likes. However, being a Utah Jazz forum, it's obvious that the overwhelming majority of posters talk Utah and BYU. They're relevant due to the demographic of the board and those two teams drive the football discussion 99% of the time. It would be like me going to an Atlanta Hawk message board and trying to drum up a conversation with folks that have no interest in discussing Utah football.

Like I said, Cy can post whatever the hell he likes and conversely, I'm allowed to find it extremely odd that he can spend an entire evening posting constant real time updates on a team that literally nobody else cares about. But hey, whatever turns ya on.

I find it interesting that you're so quick to dismiss the PAC as weak while at the same time trying to pump up BYU's schedule at every turn. I believe the PAC was something like 29-and-4 in its out of conference games this year, right behind the SEC. Yes, UCLA has looked shaky and USC **** the bed at BC (hilarious btw), but weak is an extremely sad stretch on your part.

Think he is just saying Pac-12 defense is weak, not bad at football, just they allow high scoring games.

Empty stats from running up the score? Mariota only plays in 2-3 full games a year. He is on the bench most of the second half the first two seasons he was at Oregon. I think the opposite is true. His stats are way lower because he plays less minutes.

I get that, I just think that the PAC has some pretty dynamic QB's and that might have something to do with higher scoring games. The SEC has started to see more higher scoring shootouts in recent history and it's most certainly not because the schools aren't getting talented defensive recruits. IMO, the QB play and offensive coordinator philosophies are at an all-time high pretty much across the board.

I hope BYU and Utah fans can agree just how ridiculous this is.
Bama would most likely whoop dat cougar ***.

Byu would have to play thier best and bama would have to have a bad game for byu to have a chance.

Most likely scenario is that byu loses by 20.

Fwiw I think the 2008 ute team had the perfect storm when they beat bama.... if they played 10 times I'm pretty sure bama wins 8 or 9. Btw I'm not being a hater.
That 2004 ute team was MUCH better imo and I got nothin but love for them... They should have played auburn that year. Them playing pitt was bs and a slap in the face

Cy was right about dak btw

Agree 100% with everything you say. For me, it's just silly the audacity of a BYU fan to hold up a "We want Bama" sign 4 weeks into the year. The 2004 Utah team was amazing, but due to their schedule, they did not deserve to bump out an undefeated USC or Oklahoma. Any Ute fan who thinks otherwise is a Moran.

Same thing with BYU this year. You've got a nice team and one of your better QB's in recent history, but there's nothing they can do this year to justify any sort of "We want Bama" talk.
