What's new

2014 College Football

What has happened to this place. :( thought we were friends bro.

:^O
Me too.... Until I you hated on me for being a fan of my team and told me it's hard for you to like me. That made me confused and frustrated I guess

Yeah, and how has that QB looked without Brandin Cooks? #81 in total offense, that's how. OSU didn't even gain 200 yards against USC, and as I said at the time it would be nice to pretend that USC was just that good, but they're simply not. Oregon State is horrible this year. Oregon State beat (2-5) Hawaii by 8. Portland State(FCS team that is 2-5) by 15. Utah fans sure are a dense lot, huh?

That's okay. 5 more days until reality strikes.

Lol. Go ahead and keep selling Nevada and Midd Tenn as teams who are just as good as the middle of the PAC. We'll see who's the dense one. I do however understand what you're doing. You're the loudest Cougar fan in here talking about BYU running the table etc. Your team is a dumpster fire and your reaching for excuses because you look like a Moran. But that makes sense, because you are one.

I have an idea. Let's hate on each other in this thread all we want, but then set aside any differences once we switch over to the Jazz forum.

And for the record, I'm a Cougar fan who is neither confused nor frustrated. I openly admit Utah made the better coaching hire and the better decision and are better off for it. BYU made a HUGE mistake going independent. The conference was on the way to being relevant and BYU blew it up in a fit of pique and arrogance. They got what they deserved. On the other hand, not having to revenue share and having their own TV deal, they're probably better off financially where they are now. I just don't see them ever getting invited to join a major conference, not with their non-Sunday policy.

Just to clarify, for me, this is all good natured ribbing. I haven't been on the Jazz side in awhile, I think. I don't see how anyone could get angry enough off this to have it come up in other threads.

In all seriousness, I hate this rivalry. I'm a fan of both team. I didn't know what a BYU was until my brother went there in 2004. Before that, my Dad (UU alum) had me knee deep in UU fandom. Traveled from Vegas and Dallas every summer from 1997-2003 to attend UU basketball camps (the Majerus ones were the best). I sat in the suites of RES wearing red when John Beck found Harline open in the end zone.

When it came time to go to school, I valued my education too much to go anywhere other than BYU, and I became a pretty passionate fan.

I literally live on both sides of this rivalry and am certain that requisite fandoms consist of 51% hating the rival and 49% cheering for their own team.

It's ****ing retarded.

Once you leave Utah, it changes completely. I live in the NW, and no one cares about BYU. I haven't heard their name once since I moved up here. I've heard Utah talked about...um...a couple of times, when Oregon and Oregon State have played Utah.

I watched the Nevada game. Best BYU game I've watched in years. That was the BYU I watched growing up. It sucks that they lost, but at the same time, it was entertaining.

Bronco needs to get over his trying to be like Whitt. Open up the offense. Put some of those LB'ers at TE and RB and get BYU back to what BYU does best. Big, punishing rushers that beat up mid-major defenses and passes to TE's over mid-major LB/S. That was fun to watch.

The last 5 years? Ever since Hall left? Painful. Boring. Eh.

Like I posted before, BYU has a brand that is recognizable. Go back to that. Accept what you are, and embrace it. Throw the ball around. Put your athletes on offense. Playing in a New Year's Day Bowl and being a top 15 team as a member of the MWC/AAC is much better than whatever it is BYU is doing right now.

I'm fine with the pettiness that comes with the rivalry. It's what makes any rivalry work. I don't think you ever see Michigan and Ohio State fans saying: "Man, this is too much". I gladly embrace my role as Ute fan in the rivalry, even though I fully realize that it leads to over the top hate for BYU, but that's how it's supposed to work. My hate for BYU isn't real hate. It's football hate. It exists in a vacuum. If I met most of you BYU fans, we'd probably have an amazing conversation and walk away liking each other. But when it comes time to talk **** on here, I'm up for the task, and you better be too. It's what we do, it's the roles we're supposed to play, and it gives the rivalry it's life. Embrace the hate.

Excellent post. We all take things too far at times, but when it comes down to it, most of us have good friends/family who belong to the other side. Now, just because some of our loved ones have strayed from the true and correct path, it doesn't mean we love them any less. Except when football is being played, at which time they must die (temporarily).

Never heard of them. Are they from somewhere back East? East Anglia? What that game taught me was that USC is lucky they don't have the service acadmies on their schedule. Navy, Army, Air Force would all give USC a game this year. USC wants no part of the triple option this year. They will love Booker trying to run straight into the middle of their defense, however. Tailor made for that. So that's why I think you guys are going to get to waxed.

I don't even think USC should be ranked right now. Stanford has proven to be meh so that win isn't impressive. I don't think Arizona will end the year ranked either so we'll see what they really are in the weeks to come.

Arizona State and Notre Dame might be the only teams that are ranked at the end of the year on their schedule.

Nice avatar. As much as I would like to see you support the Utes I'm glad that you at least are done supporting pee-wee football and you've embraced big boy football.

I see Travis Wilson has been named starter (again). The kid hasn't thrown an INT this year but that's due to tentative play, not because he's playing great. If Utah has any chance to win this game, they need Travis out there slinging it around like he did early last year.

I'd rather see Utah take the reigns off and for Travis to go down swinging if anything else.

I posted the exact same thing on Utefans earlier today.

Word. As the Utah team of right now is made up, Travis Wilson really is only a problem if he goes negative on the int/td ratio for the year. I'd give him that much leeway to sling freely(not telling him that would be threshold of course). Just the threat of being able to throw downfield(and the mid-range throws) is worth more than worrying about that ratio too much otherwise. If you're not going to test out deeper than #2 on the QB depth chart this year in games to see if anyone can throw it better in live action, seems like the best option.

And looking beyond the SC game, you guys need shootout ability.

#4 offense - Arizona
#11 - Oregon
#13 - Arizona State
#27 - Colorado

That's some firepower. You'll need 35 + to win a few of those games. Plus, you always want to put points up early on Stanford. Probably going to have to do that through the air. They have big time problems trying to play from behind.

I am excited for this game win or lose. I love the schedule coming up. Really tough and should be fun to watch.
