2014 *Current Players* NBA Fantasy Draft

The thing with picking Duncan @ 5 is that most people will try and get their team's primary playmaker with the 1st pick. This is something Duncan really doesn't do anymore. However, he is probably the best player in the NBA with a usage rate under 25 from the last season. So you could take a lower-tier #1 option in the second round (plenty left) and not be at a disadvantage because you have Tim Duncan with that person. Hotttnickkk certainly didn't screw himself over with his pick, and I don't think it's as bad as I initially thought. It just seems odd to take the best complementary player available (imo) at #5 impo. It makes even more sense when you think about how much of a crapshoot it appeared to be after Lebron and Durant. Not much difference in perceived value between these players.

Yup - that's exactly right.

Who does Westbrook shutdown on defense?

Does he really contribute that much on defense?

Yes, he does. It's hard to have discussions like this at this stage in the draft cause I think it's dumb to mention players that haven't been picked yet, but he's easily a better two-way star than anyone else available.

Westbrook wouldn't be a stretch at all in the top 5. Certainly not any more than Davis.

Davis > Westbrook next year

He puts up damn near LeBron numbers while playing next to Durant for ****s sake.

Also, Westbrook plays at the most stacked position in the NBA, which is another reason I passed on picking CP3.

Carmelo Anthony at #9 might end up being a steal. Yes, he's a high maintenance and high drama guy who can be a black hole on offense and really doesn't play defense. . . and yet he's one of the elite scorers in the game today. Most of his teammates like him and like playing with him. Put a solid team around him and he could win it all. I have him as a top 5 guy and would probably have taken him at #4 once LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Anthony Davis all went off the board. Had I stayed put, it likely would have come down to him, Curry or Paul. Didn't love any of those options.
