What's new

2015-2016 NBA Thread

Tonight, the unstoppable Golden State Warriors meet the immovable San Antonio Spurs in a showdown between the NBA’s No. 1 offense and its No. 1 defense, two units that aren’t merely at the top of the league, but rank among the best we’ve ever seen. It’s the game of the season — no, check that, it’s the loftiest NBA game ever played according to our in-house Elo ratings.

What makes Monday’s Spurs-Warriors game historically unique is the sheer quality of each team’s dominant unit. Only four games in NBA history have ever seen an offense 8 points better than the league’s efficiency face a defense 8 points better than that same league standard, and all of those were between the Spurs and Mavericks during the 2003-04 season.4 This game will do those one better by pitting a plus-9 offense against a plus-9 defense, an NBA first.

Under such extreme circumstances, it’s tough to say which side of the ball has the advantage — we simply don’t have enough of a sample of comparable matchups. And our other bits of evidence from history are mixed; defenses hold a slight all-time edge, but that may have eroded with recent seasons. (Or not.) Monday’s matchup won’t serve as a referendum in either direction, but it should be a spectacular clash of styles featuring basketball at perhaps the highest level it’s ever been played.

There seems to be rumors Cavs will trade Love next to add to the disaster LeBron has created.
What would be some possible trades that might be beneficial for Cavs and another team.
This will not be easy for Cavs if true.

BOS had been wanting Love for the longest time if I'm not mistaken? They don't really have a legit player to give the Cavs though....

As strange as this may seem I think the Lakers would be a good match. They can give the Cavs Hibbert and Lou Williams and may be a future pick? Hibbert and Lou could contribute straight away.

Lakers get Love to pair with Randle, D'Russell and a high lotto pick and their reboot is complete.

Love for Cousins?

Dang. The Warriors are beating down the Spurs.

It's the Golden State Warriors, and everyone else. If they stay healthy, nobody is beating them.

Stephen Curry is easily the best player in the league. It's not even close.

Spurs trying to play at GSW pace... not sure why... but they're not gonna beat them that way. They need to use LaMarcus more IMO.

Cousins doing his best Shaquille O'Neal impersonation tonight... if only he can play like this every night.

Well he's the 3rd leading scorer and 4th leading rebounder in the league. Arguably the best center. I'd say he pretty much brings it every night.

Now 56.
