What's new

2016-17 NBA PLAYOFFS THREAD

They have a billion assets and could construct their team any way they want for the future.

I'm sure they won't do this but they might be smart to build around jaylen brown, fultz, whoever they get next year (maybe that big guy you like), and Marcus smart, and trade IT for some ****.

It would definitely take longer and I'm sure they won't do it but that could be a pretty special group in the future.

Of course the great thing for boston is that they can have their cake and eat it too. They can win now while also developing these young guys for the future. Lucky ****s.

How did they get these picks anyway? (#3 last year, #1 this year, and likely top 3-5 next year) what did they give up?

Celtics fans (what's left of them) all cheering the Celtics at the end of the game. They all know this will be the last home game of the year lol.

Yeah, I think everyone knows that. Tonight was must win for them, and they got taken by 50 points.

Gobert is a bonafide All NBA player. In theory, IT was All NBA also. If you take him off the Celtics and get whatever value in return via trade, it's down to Hayward, Horford, a rookie, a future rookie TBD, and enough cap space to sign one more dude. A lot of maneuvering needs to take place. Could Ainge do it? Maybe. But it could also blow up in his face.

Sure, I think Gobert is better than anyone Boston has to help Hayward, but everyone after Rudy isnt as good as Butler/Horford/Fultz. And look at who is winning, it's teams with multiple #1 options. Rudy is great, but he isnt a #1 option. The Boston team they could potentially put together would have 3 #1 options and a playmaking center.

Like I said earlier, I think it comes down to how much Boston has to give up to get Butler or George. If both those teams cave to Boston's position and give it up relatively easy, like just for the 2018 pick/Crowder/Smart, then I think it's hard to look at Boston's situation and not think it's better than Utah's given all the variables.

Lebron will fall off before the Warriors do. I think that is pretty obvious. Do you want to be in the East or West? Even if you think both teams are even, the Eastern conference team has to get the advantage. You get to the Eastern Conference Finals every year at least. Out West it's a potential 7 game series every round.

I don't think anyone can really guard lebron

I think to guard Lebron you need to get into his head...

Leave him insultingly wide open on the perimeter so he has too much time to think and send him to the FT line as often as possible. Basically you need Lebron to beat himself.

There are many reason why Hayward would join the Celtics, and why he'd stay with Utah. What's the point of angsting over it endlessly? Let's just wait and see.

You can talk about uncertainty with Boston, but look at Utah's.

1. Favors was mostly trash this year and perpetually injured. He only has 1 year left on his deal.
2. Hood was trash this year and was even worse in the playoffs. What is Utah going to do with him after next year?
3. Exum is Exum. Is he going to turn the corner in the last year of his rookie deal or just continue being Exum?
4. Are the Jazz going to be able to sign Ingles?
5. What happens to Hill?
6. If I sign, how does Utah add any additional talent to help me win and get over the Warriors hump?

If Boston can pull off the plan they probably have (Get Butler, Trade IT). Then they have a much more stable future with multiple pieces than Utah which there only stability would be Hayward/Rudy.

Nice. But other than Curry you don't have much shooting though.

All of my players are capable 3pt shooters, apart from Jordan. Who gives a **** about lights-out shooting when you got Leonard and Lebron?

Yes, I think if Butler/George cost too many assets to get, they dont sign Hayward and just do it through the young guys while trading IT.

It just sucks that Hood was so bad this year and Exum's ACL tear 2 years ago. Those two dudes should be way further along in their progression and if they were, it would be clear Utah was the better team. Without them, I question it.

We at least have one corner stone piece in place with Rudy. Can't say that about Boston.

The Jazz need one more go-to offensive player to complement Hayward. It's true. But the Jazz are capable of acquiring that player or developing that player. Boston's situation is iffy, especially if their #1 player is about to get traded out. Horford on a max deal at 31-33 years old isn't helping a contender. The Lakers have an equal or stronger case to Hayward with Ball, George in FA, Hayward and one other piece a year from now.

The idea that the Celtics are ready to compete falls apart if they trade their "MVP".
