2016 NBA Season Notes/Info

Also if you have the 2 weeks gap before the playoffs, you can strongly enforce the 'no rest' policy because now teams have no excuse for resting players for the playoffs (i.e., because they would have an official 'rest' period after the regular season).

That would be terrible though. No one wants to wait 2 weeks of no basketball before the playoffs start.

They should expand the playoffs.

Add 4 new 3 game series for seeds 7-10. Top 6 seeds get a holiday, bottom 5 go to the lottery.

It's better than putting ads on the jerseys

This is actually a GREAT idea.

Might be too creative/convoluted for the NBA though. They don't seem to like to be too 'out there' idea wise.

If anything they need to get rid of conference seedings and make the playoffs 1-16 the teams with the best record regardless of conference.

Why? Has an eight seed even come close to a championship? I think people would see through that as just a cheap gimmick to get more games.

They're starting the season a week or two earlier next year. Three weeks earlier (just a little more) around 10/10 would be better. They could also then go about a week later. That's an additional 25-28 days of rest. Generally there are about 17-19 b2b's so this should eliminate all of them with some additional flexibility for arena/stadium conflicts with other events.

This is fine, ends all b2b's, doesn't affect baseball too much (will go into that more in a sec), won't hurt the NFL because, let's face it, the NFL is King, and in fact allows the league to make much more money with about four weeks of extra televised games. Now, other leagues may oppose, baseball most of all because of the post-season, but I think clever scheduling can be done to avoid much of a serious tv conflict. Additionally, some of the additional revenue gained through the additional four weeks of televised games could perhaps (and I don't even know if this has ever happened or is allowed) could be paid to MLB.

I do think the leagues try to help each other out. However, baseball always has some of June and all of July and August without any of the other four major sports being played. The NFL has a little over a month and a half. The NBA always have one another (as well as the NFL and MLB bookending them. The NBA could be nice and offer some of the revenue from the additional games as mentioned. But they don't need to imo. The MLB and NFL already have it best.

Ibaka and R. Lopez just threw some heavy punches and both missed....would've been nasty if either connected.
