2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

Wings get a premium... wings that can play up in small ball lineups get a premium, two way players get a premium, guys with off ball value get a premium, guys who can shoot get a premium, guys in their prime get a premium....

OP has all these attributes in different levels... you can get it cheap sometimes but it’s really hard to find.

If this has already been talked about..forgive me.

Does Conley take you out of the Tobias sweepstakes? It looks like financially it’s still feasible. They’d be over the tax but they’d be a serious contender. Ride out the final two years of Conley and DM rookie deal and then sign DM to max. Core of Harris, DM, Rudy going froward. (maybe Conley signs a smaller deal to stay if all works out)

It does and it isn’t even close... reports of 40M in cap space aren’t really feasible or functional. Mike makes 32-33M next year... Tobias will get a max... you can book it unless he gets a serious injury.

Check out Tony Jones twitter timeline... he’s got me nervous... really high on Conley... mentioned ordering certain combo/stretch forwards and put Love over Harris Otto and Gallo (just as players without consideration to contract).

I hope his thoughts don’t mirror managements.

If Exum was included in an OP Jr. trade there is a path to $28ish M in space if we moved Crowder and Korver to a team's cap space without taking anything back.

Not sure what that buys you. Could also get OP and move some of the less significant stuff around to get to $14-15M. If Niko's market sucks that might be enough to get him. Might be a good way to offer a deal and get solid value.

I think OP is good to play more than half his minutes as a 4 but I'm not sure he's a full-time 4.

If he is not full-time 4 (which I agree with) that gives reason to not move Crowder. Correct?

We desperately need solid role players who want to be in Utah like Korver and Crowder. They are fantastic contracts too.

Correct... I'd want a bench big with traditional 4 build/skillset too... could be an end of bench guy. Play OP at SF some alongside Crowder at times.

We'd be hard pressed to do better with 1 year and $15M (what they make next year combined).

Oh wow no

1. At the point that you're trading two sure-fire rotation players that are also central to the culture and one guy with plenty of intrigue and is now the third-longest tenured player on the Jazz, are you still the team and culture you think you are.
2. If you're considering getting rid of Crowder and Korver, don't you consider just trading their salary in one of these deals?
3. You'd better hit with that cap space. But you're now out on Harris, Middleton, and every tier 1 guy.

I find it really strange that he put Love ahead of Porter and Harris because in the past he's been pretty down on Love because of defense and injuries.

Elephant in the room:

If Conley is so great, why have the Grizzlies stalled as hard as they have? I say this as someone that's a strong believer that Marc Gasol is one of the best players of the last 10 years.

Would still really like Porter. Don't think Conley is a good idea, great player, but old and expensive. Don't think our window is quite now.

Yup... he doesn’t always agree with management... like he’s not a big Ricky fan sometimes.

Love wasn’t in the question either... I think there’s a chance we miss this summer and get Love and I hate it so much.

Marc has struggled and the rest of the roster is trash... okay JJJ is good but young. They played above their heads to start the season.

Their coach is bad imo too... I’m still not a fan of bringing in Conley for reasons already outlined.

It's more on Gasol than Conley IMO. Gasol has been terrible of late.

The NBA is a league run by wings and PG's. Well, all Memphis has is a great center and a good PG. Jaren Jackson will be great one day, but the wing play in Memphis cannot keep up with today's NBA.

Conley is the type guy who becomes even better when he's surrounded by good teammates. He would shine next to Donovan and Ingles on the perimeter. Add in another floor spacer like Otto or Harris, and Conley fits perfectly.

Their performance on offense... now and over the years is a bit troubling though... pgs or primary creators drive offenses imo. But their wings are trash on offense. Some good defenders.
