2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

What's the reason Indiana wants to trade Joseph or Collison? Are they interested in hype? We've got someone we can send back.

I think they'd want to keep the powder dry... don't see them as a Dante destination. They want to open up some time for Holiday... maybe address other needs. I think they'd have interest in Thabo... I think I'd prefer Collison and the salary is hard to match.

First point: What teams do we think Favors would be most valuable to?

So back to this point. Here is what I would say to this question of who might have interest in Favors:

Charlotte - they are a team that wants to win now and they would love to build around Kemba. Favors could be a short term piece or a guy who could stay for the long term. I could see a Kemba and Favors PnR being very effective.

Miami - they are rumored to be willing to trade Whiteside and others. Favors would seem to fit there well.

Milwaukee - a team that might look to strengthen as much as possible heading into the playoffs. George Hill and an asset might make sense to us depending on what else we do.

Washington - for reasons we have discussed

San Antonio - I could see Aldridge and Favors fitting quite well next to each other. I think Pop could see value in Favors.

New York - they want to dump salaries so Favors' nonguaranteed 2nd year would be valuable for them

Lakers - if there was a 3rd team that wanted Caldwell-Pope badly enough, I could see us trading Favors to LA, KCP to that 3rd team and we get assets. Favors is a player the Lakers could use for a playoff run.

Philadelphia - if Embiid got hurt, Favors is a perfect addition for a team with high aspirations but also want nonguaranteed contracts.

This doesn't shock me. I hate his salary, but I'm not as worried about his fit as some others on here.

I think there would be a riot if we traded Favors for Jabari. Some people would lose their minds.

"The Utah Jazz are one of the teams interested in Parker, according to multiple league sources. Derrick Favors is an awkward fit next to center Rudy Gobert, and his $16.9 million on the books for next season is non-guaranteed, meaning he could be one of the pieces involved. Favors can’t be traded until January 15, so Chicago would have to wait. Would it be worth it? The Bulls are loaded with young bigs, so it’s hard to see them taking back Favors unless additional assets are included. Utah has all of its future picks, except for a 2020 second-rounder going to the Cavaliers, and has two other seconds incoming.

Parker’s value has diminished, but the Jazz are desperate for offense. They rank 23rd in offensive rating this season, and last in offensive rating in the fourth quarter. Parker doesn’t care about playing defense, but the rest of the team does; if they can help him get stops, maybe he can help them buy a bucket."

“Parker doesn’t care about defense...”

Regardless of whether he’d be a good fit or not I’d be embarrassed to have that kind of reputation around the league if I were him.

What I said was "producing as a top 40 player". Considering Favors is playing behind a top 20 player, I don't find the minutes surprising.

Which "stupid" stat did you think I was referring to?

I apologize if you were not implying that Favors was a top 40 player. Many times, people use some stat to overvalue or devalue a player. When it comes to Favors, this happens all the time. He's not a top 40 NBA player. He's probably not even a top 100 NBA player.

If he played on most rosters, he would be playing behind other players. His best spot would be center on some team with talent from 1-4. If you put him on Washington or Golden State, he would be excellent in that role but still the 5th best player on that particular team.

I knew I was right. No one can answer why. The reason is our coach has got awful ideas. We need a new coach most of you agree. But because you all like quin so much. U can't go against him lol.

I love how you have to resort to responding to your own posts because everyone is ignoring your awful takes.

I don’t know if Washington is more or less likely to trade OP given the Ariza deal. They’ve eliminated some of their future salary concerns. I do wonder if Sacramento gets involved there. They can get Washington out of the tax this year and give them a couple pieces... none better than favors... but they could do shump and Koufus and I think that gets wiz out of the tax and gets them two useful rotation players.
Good point about the tax. The Wizards are likely to be in the tax in the future, so avoiding it this year (and putting off the repeater tax) would be huge from a profits stand point. However, I think the GM is more likely to keep his job if they make some noise in the playoffs than if they just get under the tax, so I think he would push the Favors deal. Of course, the Wizards are only 5.5M over the tax, so I bet there is a way to structure a trade where they either get under the cap or close enough that they can do so with a separate deal.

As for Ariza, I think he makes OPJ more expendable.

We've continued to go back to George Hill as being mutually exclusive from Rubio and maybe we're missing the mark. What if we sent Exum over for Hill? I could see a Rubio/Hill tandem actually working out pretty good.

If we got Jeremy Lin (who I like) or Collison, what happens with Rubio? Do we just dial back his minutes? What happens this summer when we have 3 meh options at PG in Rubio, Collison/Lin and Neto? Do we have the guts to let all three go for the chance at a new adventure?

If we can find a trade for Rubio, I love the idea of trading for Lin.

Tell me how this would improve our offense? Linsane...

I’m also not sure if the repeater tax is a huge concern since they decided not to pay Oubre. I think he is more available with the Ariza addition.

Lin as a backup creator would help... he’s really efficient... TS% is super high for a guard. He can create at a pretty high level and shoots a lot of FTs and three pointers.

Health is a concern but he’s useful for sure. He shouldn’t be a Rubio replacement though.

That ship sailed... to Milwaukee... they won’t want Exum salary.

So back to this point. Here is what I would say to this question of who might have interest in Favors:...

Good list. I don't think the Phili and Miami scenarios are likely, and I think Favors would be a little repetitive with Zeller in Charlotte, but I can see why the other teams would be interested. As for the Jazz perspective, I can see them being interested in what the Knicks (THJ), or Lakers have to offer.

Is this based on how he produces, or just a subjective evaluation?

I was listening to some national podcast this week (I can't remember which, maybe Lowe Post???) who said they would not be surprised if Atlanta moved Taurean Prince if a good offer came down. This surprised me as I figured Atlanta would see Prince as a building block, but assuming the person knew what they were talking about: 1) How would Prince fit with the Jazz (I haven't watched him much)? 2) What would you offer for him?

1) I have heard good things about Prince, but never really watched him. Seems to have a good outside shot, and has a reputation as a decent defender (might just be based on looks rather than production). I know he has not been in a winning situation and I wonder if he would have a big increase in production/quality if moved to the Jazz.
2) I don't think we really have much Atlanta would be interested in. He is a great contract because of his cheap rookie deal this year and next, and then restricted rights after that. I guess we could offer something like a 1st and O'Neal or Allen, but I don't know why they would take that. I really don't know what Atlanta would value (more cap space, picks, vet presence?).

I think hes a good or elite role player and they likely don’t want to pay him a premium in a couple years if they aren’t further along in the rebuild.

They’d want a first... they have a lot of cap space... I don’t know if just abfirst does it but that’d be a decent move. Only cheap for one more year after this, but you could get him and still add pieces in FA.
