2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

So in other words, Phoenix is still looking for a PG. How close were Rubio and Igor?
The Jazz are not trading Rubio unless a better/comparable but better fit PG is coming back. They are trying to win games, getting rid off your starting PG is not a recipe for success. As poor as Rubio has been, he's still our best PG by some margin since Exum hasn't taken the step forward I expected.

You are proving my point. Only a Jazz fan would call Favors a top 40 player or even bring up that stupid stat. Quin benches Favors on the regular and only plays him 23 minutes per game.

What I said was "producing as a top 40 player". Considering Favors is playing behind a top 20 player, I don't find the minutes surprising.

Which "stupid" stat did you think I was referring to?

Ingles is so much better than Rubio lol. I've played basketball at a high level. People like u have no idea. U probably never played in your life. It's impossible trying to make lots of u understand. SMH!!!

I was watching last night when Ingles was the point (I believe we had Exum-O'Neale-Ingles-Sefalosha-Favors on the floor). He ran pick-and-rolls while three players were almost stationary. That is not our offense.

Exum can create a bit but those guys are not knock down shooters or ball handlers... so yeah that ain’t working super well. If Ingles is out there with DM, Rudy, Crowder, and Royce it’s probably just fine. DM handles the ball most of the fourth anyway.

I agree with your point though. When the ball moves it seems to be with less purpose and more like a grown up game of hot potatoe... not like we are building towards getting the knock down three or layup we are hunting.

A game we could have won last night but still lots of issues.

I can understand that logic to a degree, but also, I thought we played amazing basketball last night when Donovan ran the offense pretty much the whole 3rd quarter. Rubio was a bystander and it worked.

I'm not one of those guys who thinks Mitchell will be a full time PG. But I'm also one of those guys who thinks Rubio should play about half as many minutes as he is. I just don't believe that we have the guts to demote Rubio.

First point: What teams do we think Favors would be most valuable to? I can only think of two teams that are trying to win (so exclude Suns, Bulls, Cavs, etc.) who would significantly improve with him: 1) Washington, and 2) the Clippers. Are there other similar teams that I am forgetting?

Second point: If these are the two teams for which Favors is most valuable, it seems like they would have to be the most likely trade partners. That being said, I will be surprised if we don't trade Favors for OPJ since: 1) DL liked Porter and he tends to fixate on players, 2) Washington's GM (Ernie Grunfeld) is on the hot seat and this trade would allow them to perform better this year and have better cap moving forward, 3) OPJ is overpaid so there won't be too much competition, 4) OPJ is out with knee issues so he is not likely to be traded before Jan 15th, and 5) the Jazz 2019 cap space is less valuable than before since their major FA targets (Mirotic, Middleton, Harris) are likely to stay and there are a lot of teams with cap space.

OP Jr will help but I think we still need more creators (which don’t come cheap generally). There isn’t a silver bullet (outside of a KD type).

I don’t know if Washington is more or less likely to trade OP given the Ariza deal. They’ve eliminated some of their future salary concerns. I do wonder if Sacramento gets involved there. They can get Washington out of the tax this year and give them a couple pieces... none better than favors... but they could do shump and Koufus and I think that gets wiz out of the tax and gets them two useful rotation players.

Would Favs and thabo do it? Would Sacramento also eat Howard’s salary? I don’t think they get young players or other significant pieces in the trade... they may hold off though.

I agree with much of what you are saying. Otto Porter would seem to be a player who could be available close to the deadline. That all depends on how Washington is doing from January 15 until February 7.

I like the idea of Porter, but he doesn't solve all of our issues. I like having him over just keeping Favors or likely striking out in the summer on other free agents.

Supposedly Indiana is looking to move Collison or Cory Joseph. Not sure we have anything they really want (maybe Thabo... gritty long defender on expiring deal?)... but I think Collison would make a decent difference. Having someone who can create competently on the second unit and might give us a look at what it looks like to have a more traditional pg next to DM. I like Cory as a starter more than a second unit guy because he's more of a defender/caretaker... like a rich man's Neto... and the second unit needs some help.

He shoots well from outside, but takes a hundred years to load up the shot.

Another guy that would provide some creation... Jeremy Lin. When he's been healthy he's been solid. He's a ****** defender, but has some size at the PG. I know all the smoke out of the front office says they still believe in Dante... but if Atlanta did a straight swap and we just got off the contract I'd be happy... a little sad it didn't work, but I think that contract is going to be a minor drag.

That'd be executive of the year type maneuvering. Let's send every Australian with "Jazz" in their user name over to their forums to hype up Exum... just a little, though, not too much because it would get old fast and they'd say no.

If we got Jeremy Lin (who I like) or Collison, what happens with Rubio? Do we just dial back his minutes? What happens this summer when we have 3 meh options at PG in Rubio, Collison/Lin and Neto? Do we have the guts to let all three go for the chance at a new adventure?

If we can find a trade for Rubio, I love the idea of trading for Lin.

There are 48 pg minutes... collison or Lin soak up all the backup pg minutes... They could also work alongside Rubio for a few minutes if they really have it going. When Rubio sucks we have another truly viable option (I've given up on Exum and Neto is limited but good as a injury insurance option).

If for whatever reason we didn't bring back Rubio, I'd prefer Patty Mills and Patrick Beverley (both).

What's the reason Indiana wants to trade Joseph or Collison? Are they interested in hype? We've got someone we can send back.

Could also use Exum in the Jabari deal... would be a way to sell the trade to both fanbases (hope, potential, youth... etc.). Could be a low key salary dump for us.

I think Exum's deal is slightly negative, but I could see a team taking on the project... sounds like Fultz is not available just for expirings (they want a first supposedly). If he sucks all year I only see Dante's value declining. I haven't seen the potential flashes of superstar in Dante... Given his injury history I would be actively looking to move him in January... Not desperate, but active for sure.
