2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

Interesting... if it was just Austin rivers the player I’d be cool with adding him... the fact that his personality and lockeroom presence is tough to deal with make him a “no thanks” for me. Memphis is a weird situation for him imo.

Nah. They lack scoring and have the vets to keep him in place imo.

Okay so this is the only off-court thing I know about and this take is weird as **** to me.

Rat out every cheating friend.

Don't have other examples, but this has been the word on the street according to nba sauces... just what I've heard listening to dudes connected in NBA circles. That particular event is water under the bridge... just kinda highlighted how he got that rep.

Wasn't that he ratted the guy out... its that he posted it on social media... like I said he may have matured. Dude just has a combination of red flags that worry me... he may have grown up, but he might still be injury prone or he might never play good enough defense or he may never be really efficient...

So anyways, I know Locke was just throwing out D'Lo has a random idea, but surely there is someone or someones on his mind that could be the "next Oladipo" that the Jazz could trade for or pry away in free agency. Someone who has a lot of potential but has played for terrible coaches and situations. Someone on a team who wants to clear cap space to sign a big free agent. Any ideas on players who fit that mold?

Maybe Malik Monk who was buried on the bench last year by Clifford (zero starts in 63 games, 13.6 minutes per game as a rookie)

Someone mentioned Josh Jackson who Igor is playing 21MPG. Dragan Bender is a guy who has a lot of tools and is a decent catch and shoot big, but he has been terrible in his career.

On the Lowe Post, Jackie MacMullen talked about Jaylen Brown and how people in the Celtics locker room think he's a bit weird and think he's not the intellectual he thinks he is. He's also struggled this year and Kyrie said "How do you get out of your own way to become the best version of yourself in an environment with other great players? You’re not in an environment where we can wait around for you." This one's a longshot, I'm pretty sure they'll hold onto him for some bigger trade down the line or something. Lowe said that Ainge thought very highly of him and that he wouldn't include Jaylen in a trade for Kawhi last year because of his great run especially in the playoffs.

I was hoping Aaron Gordon would be the guy, but I was banking on Jonathan Isaac having a breakout year and showing himself to be the future with Bamba or Vucevic.

Don’t like Monk at all. Think his game (dribble, shot, defense) stink.

I like Brown a lot but we don’t have the assets to get him.

Jackson is interesting to me. But can he even play the 4? There was that talk entering the league but I feel like he plays swing primarily. And his shooting numbers stink. But they’ve improved in year 2 and his tools intrigue me.

Agreed. I didn't understand people clamoring for freaking Austin Rivers. D'Lo is one of the most frustrating players in the NBA. He'll look amazing for a stretch and then do something so boneheaded you just cringe. Earlier in the season they were up 1 against the Pelicans with time winding down. All he had to do was hold the ball and get fouled. Instead he throws a NO LOOK PASS to Caris Levert who obviously isn't expecting it. Then Jrue Holiday hits a gamewinner. In their OT game against Memphis I watched, he hit a couple big shots, and then dribbled the ball for like 23 seconds on a possession and just fell down out of bounds.

I understand Locke choosing to talk him about because he seems so unJazz-like that no one would accuse him of insider knowledge, but I get where he's coming from trying to find the next Oladipo. That high draft pick who has only played on bad teams usually with terrible coaches. D'Lo has played for Tank Commander Byron Scott and then the tank-by-proxy Nets. Their fans are pretty split on Kenny Atkinson.

For anyone who thinks Brooklyn will just match whatever is offered in RFA, if they don't renounce Russell and Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, they'll only have 19mil in cap space (Allen Crabbe is surely going to opt into his 18.5mil option). If they renounce Russell and keep RHJ, they'll have 41mil since Russell's cap hold is 21.1mil, and then they can go after a max guy.

Next Oladipo could be OP Jr. used exclusively off ball... plays with ball dominant dudes and a lower end coach with no real system. Maybe not the extent to which Oladipo blew up, but in the way that he might have another gear people didn't know about.

Gordon would def be that guy for me but I think the time has passed and now his value’s too high.

Everyone's new favorite future Jazzman D'Angelo Russell is having a revenge game against LAL on NBATV right now ;). 11/4/4 after the 1st quarter.

His numbers blow this year (though he’s shooting 39% from 3 in December but Patrick Beverley interests me this off-season some, mostly because he would be so freakin’ cheap, is a better defender than Rubio, and a better perimeter shooter. He’s a UFA and if we could get him and somehow snag Porter, that’d be pretty sweet. I think we could use his presence night night out and that our defense would be a whole nother level and that he’d demand greatness from our guys. Don’t think we have anyone like that now.

The problem is he’s limited and can’t create. Oh yeah and 30.

Im so conflicted on him.

Me too. Definitely one of the most frustrating players in the league to watch. His highs are great and his lows are just mindbogglingly low. I used to not like him since before his draft, but I've started to come around on him this year. Maybe I'm just falling prey to the desperation too...

That would be awesome. Get Exum in the deal. Exum trolls hate Quin? Hello Scott Brooks.

He's worse than Exum at finishing at the rim (much worse than Rubio). He's extremely reliant on his jump shot and that worries me because he isnt someone I view as an elite shooter, but maybe he is?

What's with the animosity man? Is it because the Eagles aren't doing well? You've been pissy at me for the past week for some reason.
Not at all. You’re a nice kid but some of your takes the last week have been steaming piles. Even for you bro.

Not starter material or anything but what about Mike Scott as another stretch 4?

He’s shot 40%+ from 3 the last two years.
