2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

Why is everyone so against a smaller move? I think the last couple DL has made at the deadline have been pretty good trades.

I agree.

There are a number of guys who might be considered small moves:
- Stanley Johnson
- Bjelica
- Dedmon
- Kaminsky

The Jazz have a number of expiring contracts and a couple trade exceptions. They're positioned to make a move at this deadline. I think they want J'Rue or Otto.

Yes to Dedmon and Bjelica. He’ll no to Johnson and Kaminsky

What's the worst trade you would be happy with for:
-Otto Porter
-Mike Conley
-Jrue Holiday
-Nikola Mirotic

?

I'm really curious what Jrue's value is compared to the last time he was traded (traded for the 6th pick in 2013.). He's a better player now, but older and making a lot more money.

Interesting thought. I think that's going to be really hard to determine, since 2013 was known to be a terrible draft and Jrue was on a steal of a contract, but had injury issues at the time.

What's the absolute maximum you would give up and still feel good about acquiring the respective players? Does that make sense?

For Jrue Holiday, I would have Favors, Rubio, Exum, Thabo, Udoh, Neto, Niang, Bradley, Grayson and 2 1st round picks available. Not all of them, but a combination of them. And, I would take back a bad contract.

I wouldn't trade Mitchell, Gobert, Ingles, Crowder, Korver, O'Neale. If you added Jrue to that "core" group, you have 7 good players who play good defense and have the ability to shoot the three (outside Gobert of course). A starting lineup of Jrue, Mitchell, Ingles, Crowder and Gobert might be the 2nd best starting lineup in the league.

Don't use the comp from years ago... Sixers sold him without disclosing the injury issues and were penalized draft compensation.

In this draft I could see Orlando/Phoenix/Chicago trading a pick outside the top 3 for him... may come with some bad but expiring salary, but I think he has a lot of value... much more than Conley.

OP Expirings or Dante and expirings lotto protected first (but I'd really prefer not to)

Conley expirings (they can get their pick by flipping Favs or Ricky if they want) or expirings and Dante... I'm not really big on getting him

Jrue - anything that isn't attached really... No Rudy, DM, Joe, Royce (think he means more to us than them)... everything else would be on the table for discussion.

Niko - expirings seconds.

Jazz would probably be willing to trade:
1) Sefalosha
2) Udoh
3) Bradley
4) Niang
5) Favors
6) Rubio
7) FRP
8) Grayson
9) O'Neale

Plus a $3M trade exception from the Korver deal

Most of these guys are expiring. Royce and Grayson are cost-controlled rotation players that help our cap flexibility.

Dante is a gamble that the Jazz would probably like to play out.

We've also got a 3.97 Million TPE from JJ and a 2.5 Million TPE from Rodney Hood.

With all due respect to Royce, if he's the difference between a Jrue deal going through or not I want DL to tee up a private jet to get him to NOLA.

Agree. I don't think he has tremendous value... just that he'd have more value to us than an acquirer.

I think anything not named DM or Gobert is on the table for Jrue. Including an unprotected first. Same with Porter, except some slight protection the pick.
Mirotic is a FA after this year and unlikely to resign with a rebuilding Pelican team. The Jazz have a chance to sign him outright if he likes Quin, so very light offer there.
Conley, don't see the Jazz pursuing him

Utah should target Joe Harris. I think he's gettable for a reasonable amount.

Trotting out DM, Harris, Joe, Ingles, Favors would be fun to watch for 10 per game.

For defensive prowess alone, Jrue would be a huge get for Utah. Throw in that he can score, shoot, and create and Anyone outside of Donovan and Rudy could and should be used to acquire someone of that magnitude. The others in the discussion are not on equal ground with Jrue, but would be nice pieces, and upgrades over the current roster. Mirotic is not a better player than Favors, but his fit with Rudy is better/different. Would there be instances where he wouldn't be playable for defensive reasons? Conley is nice and a better player than Rubio until his astronomical contract is considered, I wouldn't do this.
