2020 NBA trade deadline discussion

We want a championship not just contend. You seen what contenders did today. How many championships do we have. Well maybe we better do the things to win a championship and not just contend

You have to contend to win a championship. We're contenders. What move were we making today to greatly increase our odds? When your ammo is Davis, Mudiay a far off first and seconds there's no gamechanging move to be made. Clarkson was our move.

Sprewell was a fine example of being a guy getting trouble off court, but ball the **** out on court. Could've been Josh Jackson

Sprewell was an amazing player and a good guy. I don't for one second believe that Sprewell choked PJ unprovoked. According to reports, Sprewell said numerous times for PJ not to "come up on him" yet PJ kept coming. He told PJ to stay away, and PJ kept coming. Everybody knew PJ was really hard on his players, and how this whole story made Sprewell look 100% awful still irks me to this day.

Now, I will say, Sprewell's actions were unacceptable. He shouldn't touch the coach. He should not choke him. That's completely unacceptable. His actions were awful, but not as awful as going into a crowd and throwing punches at fans. Sprewell has a worse rep for what he did in a closed practice than the guys from the Malice in the Palace.

Yes we are. There is not a team we can't beat this year.

Signed, the guy who said we couldn't beat the Warriors or Rockets last year.

Our record against good teams is awful. We just played a team with a huge rest disadvantage, at home, and they had like 5 rotation players/starters out. Add to it that one of their starters had a historically bad shooting night... and yet we lost.

Last night was a lot of DM... it was just one game... but everything points to this team being a cute story first round exit. There was a reason we started the season with Joe on the bench... the current starting lineup makes less sense than two other potential versions of the starting lineup. Joe has no pick and roll partner in the second unit and Mike can't run pick and roll with Rudy... he sucks at it.

The best option is to bring Mike off the bench, which will hurt JC a bit, but you won't lose Joe/Rudy... Royce is a much better option with the starters... they need his defense and rebounding.

We likely win 50 games because we will beat bad opponents... but right now I'd be worried against any of the top 7 west teams. The theory behind us being a contender was we don't have the top end talent but the parts fit so well that we will be better than the sum of the parts and we will be great defensively too... neither of those things are true currently and the opposite is happening those guys work against each other now.

The team needed to reconfigure... it would have been ballsy so I get why we didn't do it. But to ignore our other warts (GM and coach) and just keep rolling with status quo is dumb. Need to try something new in the rotations or bring in some new options. Let's see what happens in the buyout market.

I would include Royce in discussions.

Spree was no walk in the park... there are some other stories on him, but PJ seems to be a world class ******* away from the mics and cameras from what I've heard.

Sprewell never wanted to be famous. He just wanted to play ball. He was rough around the edges, but he was absolutely phenomenal for the Knicks in their run to the Finals. That was one of my favorite teams to watch. Those guys played so much above their fighting weight all playoffs. So much heart and desire in that team.

He was an imperfect person, but the whole PJ thing ended up defining him. Kind of unfair really, but that's how it works sometimes.

Typical Jazz. No moves is the definition of treadmill team. Happy to be chucking along in the middle of the playoff standings, making out to second round seems to be all the ownership excepts. Hey, but we got two All-stars this year, lets celebrate that!

I've talked myself off the ledge. Despite the fact it was stupid we didn't trade Davis (you'd think someone would give us a 2nd for him as former teams loved him but evidently not) at least Conley isn't shooting 30% from the field anymore. If Donovan can play at a high level with Conley on the floor and Conley keeps it up shooting 45% and 35% while taking care of the ball (as a whole he has been good at this) and playing acceptable defense we'll be alright.

I'm confident we'll get someone in there who can play the 4/5. I don't even care if the guy sucks on offense and has no shot - as long as he can defend and isn't a tweener, whether it's Reed, Ekpe or somebody else, it'll help immensely as we literally have noone who can guard the 4 well.

Players that didn't get moved that its kinda surprising...

- Baynes
- Thompson (though he's got a big number)
- Courtney Lee (expiring deal that could have been turned into something I would think)
- Markieff Morris
- Meyers Leonard or Olynyk (maybe one was in those trades... didn't see)
- Knicks expirings
- Bulls players (like none of them)

Anyway... the volume of deals was a lot less than I expected.

Perimeter D.

Ah. Defense may start from the outside and work itself in but it’s dependent on having a good defensive center for the most part, especially in a league where perimeter players can do pretty much whatever they want...and Bradley sucks.

In fairness to the Cavs, when you can spend 75 million on Drummond, Thompson and Love, you have to do it.

I agree. I expected all of these guys to be dealt or nearly dealt but there was almost zero chatter on these guys the last 48 hours.

Like does someone here actually think it would be foolish to trade NWG? He’s 25.5 years old and looked awful when we’ve seen him. What’s the likelihood he’s ever going to develop into more than a #3 point guard?
If/when we decline to waive NWG for someone on the buyout scrap heap, you’re going to see some guys surface with this argument, alleging that if DL & Co. didn’t see reason to waive him for one of those guys, then there’s obviously some magical genius to it, because there’s no way a GM of a professional sport gets that call wrong when going up against some guy on a message board from New Jersey. Unless we’re talking about some other team’s GM, then those guys can be outsmarted by Internet clowns, but not us. No. That’s silly.

Baynes is the big surprise. It sounded like numerous teams were interested. Phoenix evidently didn't receive an offer they liked, despite the fact they stink and Baynes is a free agent this coming offseason.
