2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Not bad. I'm not a JHS guy right now but I haven't really deep dived into him yet. Love getting Miller at the last pick and I love the Flip/Miami fit as far as it making me look smart.
I'd probably lose my **** if we took JHS over Black. I don't think we would. I haven't watched JHS enough but that feels like a reach/overthinking. I think Flip most likely goes in the 20s... not the 30s. He's just not my cup of tea.

I'm not sure where the drop off line is, but I think we're pretty close to it.

Wemby
Scoot
Miller
Jarace
Whitmore
Amen
Ausar
Black
George
Wallace

So with those 10 guys I'd be very content and wouldn't feel a need to trade up unless you're trading up for a higher tier within this group. Other guys I might put there are Dick and Hendricks, which makes it 12. So if we're at 13 that's when I feel like we missed out if things go chalk (according to my board).

I've watched about 3.5 games of JHS recently....still don't love him the way others do. Saw him play both well and poorly, don't love him as a lottery prospect....but I guess I understand the peel even if I'm not buying it.

I did watch Colby Jones as well since you mentioned him, I kinda like him. I don't think he's as good as Quickley, but he's kind of a similar player. I like him as a combo guard who is a menace on defense and he also has a good enough PnR game to get by on offense.
I hope Cam is pushed to the 7 spot.

I agree... sorry I may have been unclear... I would like to move up from 28 to the 18-20ish range if cost isn't prohibitive.

I think Jones is an awesome late first bet if still around. He might also be one of those guys that is pretty good at a lot of things and doesn't have enough elite stuff to make it work well in the NBA. I think he has some Malcolm Brogdon vibes... Quickley is interesting but when I watch him he's just fast/twitchy/herky jerky and I think its pretty unique and important to his success.

A superb above average role player which probably better than a couple of selections around him. It could be what some teams need, even the Jazz.
And I understand the philosophy I just don't subscribe to it at all. Taking a guy like Tony Bradley and saying he will be a reliable backup center and that is better than the expected outcome of pick # whatever is something I hate. If the upside is he is a 3rd or 4th big then draft someone else with starter potential or a bigger upside even if it has a worse chance of panning out. You can get Trey Lyles/KO types in FA and trade fairly easily. Not saying that is Flip's upside. I would rather swing on a guy with a big payout then take a guy thinking he can fill in the rotation.

Ahh...I see.

Yeah...Quickley is more....Quick lol. I thought about Brogdan as well, but I don't think Jones is the same level of shooter but they have the same smoothness instead of the herky jerky movement. Derrick White also came to mind, but I think White is more bulky. I landed on Quickley because Jones reminded me of the way he gets around screens and the way he switches on the perimeter off the ball. They would be great safety's in the NFL. Also the floater game is similar to Quickley. It's not the most efficient shot, of course, but it's so hard to defend. There's no perfect comparison, but I love all these players so I definitely like Jones.

The other player in this mold I've taken a liking to is Bufkin. I was pleased to see him in this mock. When I watched Jett, he caught my eye,

I'm not a Jett fan. I just have a hard time seeing his level of non-shooting activity increasing in a meaningful way and its so low. In that range I'd rather go Dick, Hawkins, Hendo, Sensabaugh...

Bufkin is a guy I need to watch... I like the numbers and he has come on and has some fans.

I watched a few youtubes on Bufkin... damn... I'm in. Just moves so well and intentionally. Great handle, great footwork, has that Poole shiftyness... makes some high level passes. Curious where NBA teams would have his draft stock... he's filthy.

Also seems like he tries hard on defense and makes some plays.

Yeah I'm not a huge believer in Jett either. I don't hate him, but I'd probably take all those guys you mentioned over him.

One thing to remember about Bufkin is that even though he is sophomore, he is younger than a lot of freshman. He will still be 19 on draft day.

This draft is rich in combo-ish guards. Amen, Black, Wallace, JHS, Colby, Bufkin, Sasser, Bailey.....I think that when we look back on this draft one of the steals will be one of these guys who dropped.

Terquavion as well.

I'm only a 10 minute long youtube expert on Bufkin but man... dude is filthy.

I like his defense too, he's a playmaker. 23 blocks in 33 games is not Walker Kessler numbers obviously, but I love it when guards have a decent amount of blocks. I think it reflects a great deal of athleticism and effort level. 68% shooting at the rim as well which is godly for a college PG. He's both athletic and crafty.

When I first saw him I wanted to make the bold take that he's a better prospect than Jett but didn't follow through. I will be watching Michigan closely in the tournament.

He looks like the guy I expected Nick Smith to look like. In the videos I watched he took some charges as well with some nice lateral movement... so good with his hands and feet. I think he might be wildly low on draft boards right now and I could see that changing.

Does a Sidy Cissoko Boris Diaw comp work?

JHS definitely looks good. Probably a safer pick than Black because he looks like he's probably going to excel in teh PNR. I'm also big on putting more stock in the highs than the lows and JHS has some amazing games.
