The exciting thing is those skills complement the other, they are not mutually exclusive.

Cam was elite as a spot-up/catch-and-shoot guy IIRC. If you have to guard that then he has eye-popping indicators that he will destroy close-outs.

I'm just glad they are actually negative on someone... they tend to blow a lot of sunshine. I think he is far better than Johnson/Okoro... the shot and fast twitch movements are much better already. I think a more SF version of Miles Bridges is probably pretty close. Its just some of the crossover drive stuff looks Don/Ant - esque. The shot is real pretty imo and he played all season on that wrapped thumb. If we got him at #9 I'd be shocked and elated. I think its got an almost zero percent chance at happening unless he starts rolling doobies in between jumpers at a workout GG style.

Maybe. I also think his success is more tied to fit than anyone else in the top tiers and maybe even the entire draft. I buy Ausar’s ability to improve his shooting, I am not sure I buy Amen’s.

Beyond fit I just think his speed+power combo is elite. He's not a perfect prospect, but as with Anthony Edwards sometimes you've got to stop nitpicking and realize talent right in front of you. Same is being said for Twins, I suppose, but Cam is much younger and did not play in an AAU tournament.

I would have liked to see what Cam would have done in OTE. He would have murdered that league. Not saying the level of competition is ******... just the play style... go ahead and stop that guy in transition.

Interesting. By bifurcating level of competition from style of play, you could also say that all-star games are an elite level of competition but the worst style of play.

I read it the way you meant... was just adding my two cents. I think when a guy has limited size and athleticism that type of rate reflects how smart and committed they are. It makes sense. Looking at game logs there could also be some westbrooky stat hunting stuff in there on some nights, but without watching who knows.

We are talking super small sample sizes. 13 total catch and shoot threes for him.

His mid-range off the dribble is lacking and his off the dribble three is bad as well.

I never said they were mutually exclusive but let’s pump the breaks on saying he’s some elite shooter.

I like him a lot too but we are getting a little carried away here.

Yeah there is just so much transition basketball in ote and Cam may have done some absurd numbers in that style.

Sure. But I think in his case, you can make a good argument that the negative of the small sample size is balanced by the positive of missing a bunch of time from and playing through an injury in terms of projecting general ability.

He took a high volume amount of 3’s and shot 34.3%.

I wouldn't say elite... I think the eye test and percentages tell me he will shoot it. I think the lack of catch and shoot opportunities is indicative that his situation kind of sucked and if he had more opportunities there his percentages would be better... in general catch and shoot will be significantly better than off the dribble, but not always.

He has some warts for sure. I think his warts have some of the most believable excuses and also are areas that he can improve. I have him #4 and would love to trade up for him. I just don't see him being a bust... even if he does underwhelm.
 
I will add that Cam’s combination of strength, off-the-dribble speed, quick leaping, and high leaping is extremely rare. Certainly the only in this draft with it.

He puts his head down and isn’t a good passer. I’m not saying that isn’t important. But with our development staff and frontcourt, I take that gamble 8 days a week.

His off the dribble and mid-range game is severely lacking. His best scoring ability is driving and finishing. Will he be respectable from open 3? I think so.

Having played with a wrapped thumb before (just bad sprains) I know its an absolute bitch for ball handling and shooting. The passing doesn't have much of an excuse but even if he is a blackhole scorer that's fine because he also plays defense. Most of the empty calorie types like Zach Lavine are horrific defenders too. It it all comes together then he's out of this world. I think his ceiling is Jalen Brown type but that he has a decent shot at getting there with health and the right people around him. Work ethic too of course.

I would have like to have seen him play for Bama w/good health and not one of the slowest paced teams in the country. Switch Miller and Cam's situations, I wonder if the conversation would be different.
