2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Kris Murray and Noah Clowney have been added to the Green Room for next week's draft. That's 21 Green Room invitees. Still no word on Leonard Miller. It sounds as though Murray is going to decline and watch the draft from home with his family.

Cason actually has some pretty elite stats. He came in at 3 on Pelton’s big board based on stats only.

Just like the opposite of the French League players I think the Kentucky guard thing works in his favor to me.
He’s a guy the closer I look at him the more I like him… some guys are very much the opposite.

Walker would be such a great fit but still believe Ainge would take Whitmore over him if actually given the choice.

I like Bufkin fine but also like JHS and Colby Jones as combo guard prospects. I'd still take Leonard Miller or Dariq Whitehead over any of them at 16. Every draft you typically find good combo guard prospects taken late 1st/early 2nd (Poole, Simons, Clarkson, D. White, Hyland, Brogdon, KPJ, etc).
I think Walker is obtainable, I am not sure that Whitmore is. Whitmore's lack of connectivity scares me just a bit too. I would be pretty happy if we ended up with Whitmore though.

Kobe Bufkin shoots 71 freaking percent at the rim. That is the polar opposite of JHS. That is one of those things that, after he breaks out big in the league, people will say "all the indicators were there." Oh yeah, he shoots well from everywhere else too. The only knock on him is he is a bit light. That is something that is definitely fixable in the NBA.

He's not that light. He's in that Jordan Clarkson, 194 lbs range.

Here's a guess at how the draft is shaking out:

1 Spurs - Wembanyama
2 Hornets - Henderson
3 Blazers - Miller
4 Rockets - Amen --> draft changes significantly if the Rockets take Cam instead of Amen
5 Pistons - Whitmore
6 Magic - Ausar
7 Pacers - Walker --> trade-up target for the Jazz, but I'm not sure why Indiana agrees; maybe Pacers like Dick, Hendricks or Coulibaly.
8 Wizards - Black --> Wizards could take Bufkin or Coulibaly instead of Black.
9 Jazz - Coulibaly --> too much potential to pass on
10 Mavs - Hendricks --> OKC may trade up from 12 to take Hendricks; rumor is OKC would move 12 + Dort for 10.
11 Magic - Dick
12 Thunder - Lively --> Mavs could trade back and take Lively at 12; could the Jazz trade up to 12 with Dallas? Jazz would target Bufkin.
13 Raptors - Bufkin --> trade-up target for the Jazz, but I'm not sure Toronto agrees
14 Pels - Wallace --> trade-up target for the Jazz; Jazz could take Wallace or Hood-Schifino; Mavs could also drop back to 14 and take Lively.
15 Hawks - Hood-Schfino
16 Jazz - George

If Indiana likes Hendricks and Walker equally, Hendricks + a Jazz asset would go down rather nicely for them. I'd give them that Laker's pick, but I value Walker more than anyone else save his mother. They may even take Hendicks plus the Lakers pick even if they value Walker more.

You do have a point worth noting but there might be guys that can do that stuff to go along with athleticism and defense. For example, Walker
Walker cant shoot like Hendricks silly. Do you have hendricks vs walker athletic testing numbers to compare? Hendricks is a good defender. What is it that you are thinking walker has that hendricks doesn't again?

I have officially moved Bufkin ahead of Wallace on my big board. I love both guys though and would be happy with either.

My observation is that Walker is far superior with on-ball and perimeter defense, for starters. Hendricks is very good as a secondary rim protector which would have value with the Jazz too though.

That's my point. If that is his biggest flaw, that's a good bet to get fixed. The counter is that AK47 could never put on the weight he needed to dominate.
I dont think weight was the issue with AK. I think it was fit.

Basketball IQ ball skills. I’ve never thought Walker was the shooter Hendricks is but I think he’s good enough and as I said I value those other skills more as long as there is sufficient enough shooting.
