2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Anyone else realized Sam Vecenie is based in Australia?

I mean, wow, how do you keep in the loop with scouts and agents and rumors from Australia?

I know the internet is amazing, but still.
He moved there a couple years ago… spent his time on the come up in the states. His wife is from Australia.

Washington got screwed so hard. What a terrible return for their de facto franchise player. Holy crap. Old Chris Paul on an expiring contract, Landry Shamet, 2nd round picks and pick swaps? Ouch!

Just a reminder. . .

Rudy Gobert - 3 unprotected 1st round picks, 1 top 5 protected pick, 2 pick swaps, Walker Kessler, THT (via Beverley) and about half of the Lakers top 4 protected pick (via Beasley/Vando).

Donovan Mitchell - 3 unprotected picks, a pick swap, Lauri Markkanen, Collin Sexton and Ochai Agbaji.

Jazz will have 3 picks this year (including two top 16 picks) to jump start their rebuild. Wizards have to tear it down AND they will have Jack crap for assets to do that. Glad we’re not the Wizards right now.
They waited a year too long to trade him and for whatever reason gave him the only NTC in the entire league. I'm assuming that Kuz walks and they look to move off of Porzingis soon as well. They're going to be bad enough to be a bottom three team at least.

Peachtree Hoops site was going through all Jazz drafts Quin was there for and I completely forgot we got Josh Hart in that Mitchell trade. But then swapped him for Tony Bradley.

Jazz didn't draft Hart. The Lakers did. We technically selected him, but it wasn't for the Jazz.

The rumor is that Donovan absolutely shredded Hart in the workout they had for the Jazz so I guess Utah wasn't too interested

According to Wasserman, it sounds like Black’s floor is 9.

While a Bradley Beal trade could throw a wrench into the Washington Wizards draft, rival teams don't believe they pass on Anthony Black at No. 8. Regardless, he's expected to be off the board by the time the Dallas Mavericks pick at No. 10, whether it's to Washington or the Utah Jazz.

I think Black could go as high as 5th or 6th. And he’s still my favorite. Ex-Jazz assistant coach Gordie Chies summed him up. “Yeah, Penny Hardaway,” he said, comparing Black (or what he thinks he‘ll develop into) to Hardaway. “He (Black) is tall. He’s good. I like him. I like his game. He’s a tall point guard. He’s instinctive. He knows what he’s doing. When he penetrates, he thinks pass right now. He’s bouncing in transition. Also, he can steal the ball. Also, what he does—he’s a defensive player. He’s got quick hands. When someone drives to the middle of the floor, he can pick their pocket.”

I also think Detroit should just trade down. Sounds like at least one of the guys they’re considering at 5 will be available at 9.

Would you trade 9 + 16 + a future first for 5 to get Whitmore?

That’s tough. Probably not… but maybe if the future 1st is like the worst of the 2025 picks or something.
