2023 NBA Free Agency Thread

I'm not a Quickly guy. Not that I'n against him, but I just don't know too much.

As someone who is a Quickly guy, why was he *** in the playoffs?
Didn’t watch enough to have a full diagnosis but I’d say just a make or miss league and he was just off.

I wouldn’t mind that….although with Oubre that’s probably a player option year 2….but that’s fine.

I like Derick Jones Jr a lot as well, but with Hendricks and Collins we could probably pass on him.

Maybe Jayden Nowell? Had a disappointing year where forgot how to shoot but maybe he can bounce back.

It would kind of be hilarious get get Beasley back lol.
I really like Nowell but we have so many guys with similar skillsets that I don't think he makes much sense. I feel the same way about Lonnie Walker.

Realistically, there's no reason to believe that Banton is any better than THT but I wouldn't mind giving him a flyer. He is the goofiest player in the league lol.

You probably could get him on a multiyear/non guaranteed contract. I would probably prioritize the guys we can could get on these types of deals even if they aren’t the best names on the list.
I like Banton a lot and he has great size for position versatility.

I didn’t watch the playoffs at all, outside a few games. Can’t say.

I have no doubts in IQ though.

Most of the time when comes to playoff performance a player is good until he’s not….or vice versa. But I still think it’s fair to question what went so wrong for Quickley. On the reasons I joined late and did not invent liking Quickley (s/o @Bodhi ) is that he can’t get to the basket. If you ready any of my draft takes you’d know that’s a really big deal to me. He really improved his rim finishing last season, but in the playoffs was allergic to the basket. That on top of his three ball not falling was a disaster. Will this be an ongoing thing and not just make/miss stuff? It’s a hard living in the NBA to succeed without getting to the hoop.

I really hoped on the bandwagon because it seems like a great opportunity. NYK cannot pay everyone so we can swoop in and take advantage. He is also undeniably a +\- god.

I think if you can nab someone for the room exception that projects to be a good value on a 1+1 contract… if not I think we do end up making a trade. You’d want to finalize the JC extension first just in case you took a bit more salary in.

Not looking at a list I think Oubre might be the best candidate for something like that.
There’s a couple of reasons why it makes sense to offer the room exception to a guy right now.

A.) Competition is a good thing. I’d like to see the Jazz add a wing-sized guy that can push the others on the roster for PT and roles. Let the best man play.

B.) It’s nice to add a little more depth and/or roster flexibility to fill out the depth chart. It’s a long season, and it’s good to be able to go deep into the bench to keep guys healthy for the postseason.

C.) $7(ish) million is a decent salary number to have available for trades at the deadline or next summer.

Of the guys still available, the only ones that really interest me are Kelly Oubre, Jr., Matisse Thybulle, Derrick Jones, Jr. and maybe Christian Wood.

Also wouldn’t mind taking a minimum (non-guaranteed contract) look at guys like Darius Bazley, Mac McClung, Dalano Blanton, Trendon Watford, Wenyen Gabriel and/or Svi Mykhailiuk.

Good post

Quite honestly... I think I can live without any of them on my team.
01 - SF: Lauri Markkanen
02 - C: Walker Kessler
03 - PF: John Collins
04 - SG: Jordan Clarkson
05 - PG: Collin Sexton
06 - PG: THT (expiring)
07 - SG: Ochai Agbaji
08 - PF: Taylor Hendricks
09 - PG/SG: Keyonte George
10 - C/PF: Kelly Olynyk (expiring)
11 - SF: Bryce Sensabaugh

12 - PG: Kris Dunn (partial guarantee)
13 - SF: Simone Fontecchio (possibly expiring)
14 - PF: Luka Samanic (non guarantee)
15 - C: Vernon Carey, Jr. (non guarantee)

If the Jazz can get any of Oubre, Thybulle or Woods for the cap space exception, I’m all for it. Anybody else, I’d like to see on a non guaranteed deal and let them compete in training camp to try to nab a spot at the end of the roster.

You forgot Grant wiyams and/or Ayo. Christian Wood has some baggage that apparently has him traded year after year in spite of solid numbers and we are loaded at the 4/5 spot so he would be a pass for me.
