2024-2025 Tank Race

Murphy is somewhat back, but rusty and doesn't play back-to-back, Ingram also out vs Cavs tonight. Alvarado, CJ McCollum, Zion, Herb Jones, Jordan Hawkins, Dejounte Murray still out. Seems like Ingram is a short-term thing, but the injury report is not great reading for a Pelicans fan (or from a tank point-of-view).

Apparently their projected starting lineup vs Cavs will have a combined salary of $8M.
Thanks, I was more looking for projected time lines for their return. Do you know if they are looking to be out days or weeks or months?

The injury report has most of them listed as being back relatively soon (November) where it says estimated return date, but they also all seem to be "not yet full contact drills" the lot of them. Alvarado is out until mid/late Dec, and seems like Zion is still "indefinitely" (despite Nov 25 as estimated return). Seems to be to a large extent unclear.

They could be, but those guys don't want to sit if they get healthy. How to keep losing then?
Zion and Ingram is really easy lol. If those guys aren’t out there I’m not sure the other guys matter that much. Especially in the West.

I can’t think of a worse outcome for the Jazz this year than drafting later than pick 5 after they cut their legs off two years in a row for Hendricks (pick 9) and Cody Williams (pick 10).
I really like 6 guys right now, with not a lot of separation between them. That will change as the season unfolds, but 6th doesn't seem too bad to me currently.

POR loses by 10
CHI loses by 16

Not a lot of tanking teams last night, but there are some important tanking race games on tonight.

76ers are pretty close to calling it a season. Maxey came back and their "big 3" finally played together. Pg13 got hurt again on the same knee that kept him from playing at the beginning of the year. There is turmoil between team mates. They aren't blatantly tanking like the pelicans but it's almost to that point

I have been worried about them for a while. I think they are in a tough spot as to guarantee they keep their pick they would need to be bottom 2. To do that they would need some blatant tanking or serious fake injuries, as even if they are dysfunctional the sheer quality of their top guys will probably be too much to stay low enough.

Hopefully Silver keeps an eye on them since it would suck to see them pushing us down in the final lottery standings.

It's only November and they play in the East, as bad as they've been they are only a few games out of a play in spot. With flattened odds, it would be super risky for them to try and tank their way in to a top 6 protected pick. Embiid just had his first good game of the season. Maxie is back from injury and should look like himself soon. I really have no fear of the Sixers joining the tank race.

The season is still so early. Philly and New Orleans both have the talent to win 65% of their remaining games when healthy. That is plenty to catchup and make a playoff run.

I don't see either team calling it until at least mid season.

I wouldn't doubt the pelicans. I just read an article that 90%+ of their player payroll is out.... and 'for a while.' Their whole team is out with hamstring strains.... literally

We either sit Lauri/Collins or give a heavy dose of Cody in order to lose against SAS. I know they just pulled off a miracle, but they’re rolling out a 10 win kind of squad tonight.

We won't. We winning tonight. FML how are the Sixers so bad when they are trying and we win on accident.

Sixers and Pelicans both feel like the teams that may let go of the rope if things don't turn around. Won't be hard with the injury history of their stars.

This will be a tank battle to the end and we need to get gross... like we need to draw at least one fine or investigation this year or we didn't go far enough.

Damn the laws in my state. This game is pretty much free money. I'd bet the Jazz straight up... SA currently 2.5 pt favorites.

Washington, Toronto, New Orleans are right there with us. Philly needs to turn things around fast or they'll likely just flush their season. And there's your bottom 5.

When Embiid introduced his new free throw routine preseason (putting his fingers in his *** and then smelling them before giving and approving look) he made it clear he likes the smell of his own farts. Now yesterday Tyrese Maxey called him out specifically for being late for every team meeting and session and said that is affecting the locker room.

Add to that the fact that the conditioning callout by that reporter definitely hit a sore spot and the few games he has played he has been absolutely gassed and not as physical as before (had his first 0 FT game since 2018), its obvious Joel isnt being totally serious right now.
