2024-2025 Tank Race

I think NOP is a big threat….but they need the same level of injuries as they’ve had thus far just to compete with us. I think the records right now do a good job of illustrating that.

Reasonably healthy Jazz are at a similar level as catastrophically injured Pelicans. Pelicans can’t really get much worse….we know what happens later on in the season with Jazz.

Any team can sit any team of course….so that’s a wash across all teams and I have full belief the Jazz will do so + the Jazz have the biggest tank waiting in the wings.
It's about trading and contusion time to manifest itself.

Why are the Jazz losing so many games? Looking at the roster Utah now has a solid rotation. Kessler is likely the 12th-15th among the centers, Collins is about the 15th PF, and Lauri is one of the best SFs. The backcourt is a step below but the latest version of Keyonte and Sexton are still starting-level quality players (somewhere in the 25th-30 range). Finally, the bench with Clarkson, Eubanks, Brice and Juzang is better or equal to several other teams' benches. Our rookies are either shipped to the G Leaugue or play minor minutes. The Jazz should not be the 2nd or 3rd worst team: their players are better than the roster of the Blazers, Nets, Hornets etc.

...and then I looked at the last games and realized that the Jazz are NOT routinely badly losing anymore: they destroyed the Blazers and pushed to the wire the Lakers and the Suns. They only reason why the Jazz have so few wins is because they almost exclusively played against strong teams in the West. But that is going to change dramatically in the next several days: in the next 19 games the Jazz are going to play against a bunch of weak teams: Detroit, Brooklyn (2), Philadelphia, Charlotte, New Orleans (2), Washington, injured Orlando...

The Jazz can easily go 8-11 and exit the very bottom of the standings. If Ainge wants to make this team worse he needs to do it in a hurry.

Because they are letting Keyonte/Collier develop as PG's.

And no, Keyonte or Sexton are currently not starting level quality players.

You left out about a 40 point loss to the kings doe

They are not starting level quality players for a bad team? Looking at other teams currently above the Jazz in the standings: their starting guards this season are Cam Thomas, Jaden Ivey, Josh Green, Ochai Agbaji, Anfernee Simons, Kevin Huerter, Gradey Dick, Dalton Knecht, Andre Jackson... You may not consider them starting level quality players either but they have been actually starting. And I do not think that Keyonte and Sexton are clearly below this group of guys.

Anyone is a starting level player for a bad team.

Sexton is borderline because he's shown to be really good last year, but he hasnt really been this year.

But that's the point: the Jazz are currently having worse record than several teams with starting guards on about the same level. And the frontcourt of Kessler-Collins-Lauri is better than quite a few frontcourts. If the Jazz rotation remains the same they will start catching up with the Blazers, Raptors, Hornets, Pistons and Nets pretty soon.

No they wont.

Schroeder is better than Sexton this year. Pretty bad news for his potential return value and bad news for our pick.

For the record, I don't think and haven't thought that it makes sense to trade Sexton.

I don't know if you noticed but several teams that were just recently comfortably ahead of the Jazz lately went into the full tanking mode. Here are their recent records:

Portland: 1-7
Brooklyn: 1-5 (and just traded their best player)
Charlotte: 1-9 (several key players are injured and will not be rushed back)
Raptors: 0-4 (two key players recently got injured and will be out for a while)

And all of that is happening when the Jazz started showing some signs of life and got their injured players back. The Jazz played only 2 teams who are currently below .500 and won both - in the next six games four of the Jazz opponents are below .500 teams.

Jazz have won 2 of their last 14 games. They play in the West. Relax.

They will eventually play more and more of the young guye.

Jazz play no defense , bottom 3. Bad defense make you lose a ton of games. Still confident we will remain bottom 3 the entire season. And one trade more and we may fight with WAS for the top spot !

Thy Jazz Fanz lament at the nadir of Jazzistic performance on court. We have fallen into a new Dark Ages, in which not even Medieval superstitions such as Churroism can extinguish our lament. Lo! Tis approaching the time for a Renaissance of Jazz performance. This can only be accomplished by a new Enlightenment, in which empiricism and the human sciences are taken seriously as guides for Jazz performance.
